Knicks Going Forward

The Knicks just traded their best asset for a bad player, Dennis Smith Jr. , two expirings that they'll probably trade away or release, and the Mav's first picks in 21 and 23, though 23 is top 10 protected and it could switch to 22 and 24 if the Hawks 19 picks ends up in the top 5.  Complicated enough?  Stupid enough? The advantage the Knicks got from KP's injury was a year to be bad, while they rebuilt the core, with another lottery pick in June. They coudn't see that through and that's the sign of weak characters in the front office. Two deer in the forest are not worth your fridge full of venison.  Kristaps Porzingis was the Knicks best pick since Patrick Ewing, and a wonderful face for the franchise. Now their best young player is either Kevin Knox or Mitchell Robinson - which is not terrible - as both still have lots of upside (as they showed last night), but they are literally down two 2 such players.  When the day opened they had three. The firm of Ntilikina, Smth and Mudiay is uninspiring. Trier and Dotson are useful, and will be good pieces to have if they can hit it in the draft again. Because of today's move and the expirations of Matthews, Jordan and Enes, they can sign 2 max players this June.  Who wants to be one of them ends up being Kemba?

We'll have to see if they can flip anyone other than Mitchell and Kevin at the deadline, it's always good to have multiple picks in a given draft, especially when you are as talent challenged as the Knicks just became.

Wonder if they'll call anyone up from Westchester.

Stephen A Smith can defend Mills and Perry. He can say this is the right move under the circumstances, but how did those circumstances arise?

Is it really because of Phil Jackson even though all of that has been purged? That seems insane. So what is it?

SAS can talk about hearing that Kyrie is interested, and maybe Durrant, I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then I will believe it’s Kemba Walker, who is a ball hog.

I am going to start watching Net games much more.

That Cuban was able to get Doncic and Porzingis is mindblowing to me.

Me, too. I'm heartbroken and may hit the Jameo soon. The Knicks gave KP a fraction of a season as the face of the franchise between trading Melo and his knee going. I love Knox and Robinson, but they are not unicorns.

Pick details via league memo: NYK receives next avail DAL 1st-rounder unprotected. Depending on when that happens, NYK then receives either DAL 2023, 2024, or 2025 1st-round pick-- top-10 protected in all three years. If they haven't received 1st by 2025, they get Mavs 2025 2nd.

So, if I'm understanding this right, if this years Dallas pick falls 1-5 Dallas does not trade it to Atlanta but sends it to NYK....we could have 2 picks top 5 this year?

I can’t see Dallas in the bottom five. Porzingis will be back by what March 1 at the latest?

Steve Mills says to ask Kristaps Porzingis if his tension w/ Knicks extends back to 2017, when he skipped exit meeting. But says he's not angry at Porzingis.
“I’m relieved that we know. We want to know if you’re in with us or not in with us... There’s nothing to be angry about.”

I predict that the Nets sign two better free agents than the Knicks. Go Nets.

So they think they'll be more attractive the free agents with cap room and a worse pick?

It's alright if you want to switch teams, but I hate the Nets and let's not talk about them here.

No problem.

I'm hoping Jordan and Matthews will be a positive impact on the bench, practice and in coaching the younger players. They should not be getting minutes over the younger players, especially since we know they will only be here a few months at best!

There was a vibe of panic after the recent loss to the Mavericks at home. It could be that either Dolan or Mills accelerated the timetable of trading Porzingis after that. Whether or not those guys get minutes will offer information on whether that take is right.

Either way, after sleeping on it I’m even more nauseated. I am so freaking tired of rooting for teams run by people who never achieved anything independently in their lives.

The transition away from my fandom won’t be easy, but I’ve had enough.

And if somehow I’m wrong about all this and they sign Durant and Irving I’ll reconsider. I’ve changed my mind before and I can change it again. Because really the facts will have changed.

Wake me when that happens.

Apart from being run like they are deliberately trying to suck, one of the major reasons the Knicks suck is always winning a few more games to mess up their draft position.

That even happened from at least 2003, the LeBron and Melo draft.

So Hahn:Jordan, a two-time first-team All-Defensive selection, could help mentor Mitchell Robinson as a defender and rebounder. Matthews may look for a trade or buyout to land with a playoff team. But in the meantime, the Knicks may be better now than before this trade and that could — all kidding aside — impact their chances to land the No. 1 pick.

It’s going to happen.

Fizdale seems to know how to blow winnable games without making it look intentional.

Rich, the #10 lottery pick, where Dallas now sits, has a 10%ish shot of being a top 4 pick.

Thanks.

They should not have made this move until Anthony Davis is traded. There may have been a three way possible.
