Mo and Moose Make it to Cooperstown
I think all of my Mussina pics are on my old computer. Anyway, and justly, the great Mariano Rivera and great Mike Mussina just got voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is deeply awesomeo for the Yanks and their fans, and I think it's also deeply awesome for the Hall, and I'll tell you why. Some decades ago 300 wins became the standard of HoF induction for pitchers. And, as a result, a bunch of very deserving pitchers, including Mussina today have been kept out by idiotic writers that didn't notice the advent of the bullpen by committee while they were pushing the 300 win standard. Roy Halladay also got in today and he had just 203 wins. So what Moose and Doc imply is that some other great pitchers - not flashes in the pan - but really great pitchers will get another look and have more chances. We'll see. Though, we know there will be at least one great day in July of 2019.

Obviously, I’m glad Mussina got in and Mo too, but it’s kind of strange that Mo was unanimous given how many more important players, in the sense that they played 150 or so games/season, weren’t unanimous. There’s no way any reliever is worth as much is those types of players.
As he got over 1000 innings his career numbers became more meaningful.
Congrats to Mo with the unanimous election!

It will be interesting to see if Mussina gets in as an Oriole or Yankee. He had some big games in pinstripes with most notably game 7 of the 2003 ALCS.
I realize there were players who were just as deserving of the unanimous honor as Mo — probably even more so — but it’s difficult to come up with a more deserving human being.
Glad Moose got in as well. One of my favorite Yankee pitchers since I began following the team.

That's ludicrous.
I see a headline in the Yankee news app from the New York Post about Michael Kay having a beef with Mussina. Who gives a shit?
Shorter version: hits the ball hard, but hits a lot of ground balls, but that may mean that his Park effects differential is less important, he doesn’t walk much but he doesn’t swing at pitches out of the zone, and he doesn’t strike out a lot.

What to make of Yankees’ farm system, which has only 2 in Baseball Prospectus’ top 101
...
According to a major league scout who sees a lot of the Yankees minor leaguers, they still have a whole lot of potential gems in their system behind right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga, who is ranked 64th, and center fielder Estevan Florial, who is at No. 66.
“I think the Yankees’ farm system still is in good shape,” the scout, who wished remain anonymous, told NJ Advance Media. “They’ve still upper echelon. For me, they’re still top 10 in baseball. They’ve got a lot of youth in there that they just to be patient with. I like what they’ve got at the lower levels.

According to the scout, the Yankees still have more than their share of high-ceiling prospects in their system and they’re very well-stocked in arms with Loaisiga, Abreu, Luis Medina, Clarke Schmidt, Domingo Acevedo and about a dozen others.
The system is really in great shape. The last two IFA classes have been fantastic and they loaded with pitching from the drafts and IFA.
