Breaking: Sonny Gray Traded

Okay, this is just happening, and I'm using this picture of 2B Shed Long as at least a placeholder till we find out what the takeback is. He's been rumored to be in the deal all weekend.  Will update.

UPDATE: It is Shed Long and the 2019 Comp Balance Pick.  Nice. Yanks also gave up LHP Reiver Sanmartino.

Further Update: The Yanks flipped Long for CF Josh Stowers, and second round pick from last year's draft out of Louisville. You might recall that the Yanks popped some speedy CF types in that draft and he's probably from their list. Bats right and gets on base.

Passan confirming Shed Long is part of the trade. Hope the supplemental pick is, too.

Rosenthal: Gray extension with #Reds complete, per source. Three years, $30.5M, covering 2020-22. Club option for ‘23 at $12M. All salaries can grow based on numerous escalators. Plus $500K of innings pitched bonuses each year.

That’s four total years when you include his $7.5M for this coming season.

Passan: The Sonny Gray deal may turn out to be a three-way trade, league sources tell ESPN. Seattle is sending center field prospect Josh Stowers to the Yankees, sources said, and Shed Long is expected to go to the Mariners.

It’s a great deal for the Reds. Hopefully it works out for the Yankees too.

I thought you can’t trade drafted players for a year

They got rid of that two years ago.

9) Josh Stowers, OF, Grade B-: Age 21, second round pick in 2018 from University of Louisville; hit .260/.380/.4190 with 20 steals, 37 walks, 57 strikeouts in 200 at-bats in Northwest League; ideal leadoff type with speed and patience, has doubles power too; arm may limit him to left field; ETA 2021.

Heyman: Wonderful story: Danny Farquhar is signing a minors deal with Yankees. Farquhar has recovered from life threatening brain hemorrhage suffered early last season while with the White Sox. Great response saved him. Now he is ready to go.

This is cool.

Good.

Good move. Draft pick is the most exciting part of this as well as shedding Gray's salary.

It was the Reds that acquired Sanmartin in the deal who they originally got for Herrera from TX.

Could have some Yankees going into the BBHOF later today!

Al Leiter is leaving yes. He was the only one worth listening to. Even David Cone has become a bit of a homer. It’s a horribly run network, but it doesn’t matter because people want to watch Yankee games and they wouldn’t listen even if 5 year-olds were the broadcasters.

Nice he's leaving to coach his son.

Oh yeah it’s tremendous for him.

I hope this happens; Teams have asked the Knicks about Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee, according to league sources, but New York has been adamant about not attaching assets to move them

I hope we trade both of them.

Mussina is the one I want to see get in above anyone else. He’s getting to the point where if he doesn’t get in soon he’s never getting in.

So Kanter wants out, and I understand that, but he is making 18+ million a year. OK in another era maybe he’d be kind of valuable, but in this one that’s a shit ton of money for a guy who plays sn outmoded style of basketball. Who would want him?
