This Week on the Blog

Alright, the Yanks continued to behave curiously, the Knicks and Rangers continue losing during their acknowledge rebuilds, and the Giants watched the playoffs. Lets take a look at this week.

Yankees: The Yanks curiously signed LeMahiue yesterday.  For him to play, one player, who's a better or much better hitter than he is will have to sit. He had played a lot with Tulo and that might or might not mean something. Anyway, what will they do next? They still haven't traded Sonny Gray or added another starter. So here's what I think will happen. Machado will choose the Yanks. The Yanks will then turnaround and trade Gray, Andujar and maybe something else for a top starter. And LeMahieu will play 3B, Manny will play short and Tulo will be the extra piece, most days.

Giants: The Giants were interested in the Jets deposed DC, so perhaps they are looking for upgrades on the staff. They have important cap decisions to make, starting with Eli. They'll make them. I am reasonably and finally certain that the OL will be fixed before we play another game. Could be another quiet week.

Knicks: The Knicks are still tanking, and only fun to watch in spurts. Enes Kanter may be on the way out, which would be fine, if they gain an asset, but now there are reports that KP is unhappy - and that is not fine. The Knicks only jobs this year were to develop the kids and keep KP happy. So they better fix that.

Rangers: Rangers are currently tied with the Islanders, 1-1. Chytil has to goal, so it's a good game. Chytil's having a weird year. He has games and periods where he looks absolutely elite, then games and periods where he disappears from the score sheet. He is the youngest kid on the team, so he's got time to step up. Rangers have to start thinking about the trade deadline.

So there we have it. Yanks make no sense, Giants make no moves, though they might, Knicks and Rangers must continue developing/tanking and thinking about trades. Wouldn't be surprised if the Yanks make a trade or two this week.

Have a great one.

I am a little disappointed with what seems like a lack of effort on defense by the Knicks. Losing is irrelevant.

they've been missing Mitchell and not playin their best combos.

It’s not just the perimeter defense that concerns David Fizdale. It’s not the transition defense or the post defense or the perimeter defense. Not even the weak-side defense.

“All of it,” the Knicks coach said.

His frustration with that end of the floor is understandable. The Knicks have allowed at least 109 points in a stunning 21 straight games. It’s not a coincidence they have just three wins in that span. On Friday night, they gave up 121 points to the Pacers, including 52 percent shooting from the field and 12 3-pointers. They have a defensive rating of 113.5, which is 29th in the league, better than only the Cavaliers, and are allowing 116 points per game.

“We struggle with the concepts right now, we really do, and the biggest one is the weak side of our defense and understanding how to scramble out of coverage, which is typical,” Fizdale said.

“In my conversations with other coaches that have coached similar type teams, that was always their biggest issue, was ball movement, getting them to share the ball and getting them to understand how to defend on the weak side.”

Even if this analysis is mostly right this signing is still curious:

I'm still perplexed. Btw, LeMahieu is immediataly one of the oldest players on the team.

Knox’s best game as a pro. Mudiay looking like a piece going forward if they can finesse the cap implications.

Knox and Frank both impressed. I think KK's best game might have been the one where he got the historic double double that put him in LeBron's company, and only LeBron's company.

After initially thinking the Yankees would sign at least one of Harper/Machado, possibly both, I'm now of the belief that ownership is too cheap nowadays. That said, the fact neither have signed yet — wasn't Machado supposed to decide by this weekend? — makes me wonder what is actually going on behind the scenes here.

My take: There is a return to mid-1980s collusion. Players, agents, and. of course, owners all know it. The difference between then and now is that it’s now only directed at the very high end. Add in the uncertainty of the expiration of the current CBA in 2021, when this uncompetitive behavior is going to provoke intense labor problems, and only the RS have been willing to vastly overspend and it has paid off.

The #Phillies, according to team executives, have visions of signing Harper,
Keuchel and Kimbrel

If this is his best offer and they don’t match or top at they are circus clowns.

@YankeesPR: The Yankees have acquired LHP Ronald Roman and cash considerations from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for OF Tim Locastro.

Once again convinced that no one knows anything about Harper and Manny and won’t right up until they make their decisions.

whateverfan is so transparently trolling, right?

Mike you are right no one has any idea, Not sure how reliable Passan is, but. Lozano roasted Buster and Nightengale... I still find it hard to believe they wouldn’t come away with one of the big two, though it won’t shock me if they get neither.

So I am a troll because my opinion differs from yours?

That is an ignorant statement Rich.

You could be like 75 and don’t want kids playing on your lawn, but my guess is you are much much younger.

How could a Yankee fan not want Machado at 175 million? That’s so far below his ability level.

You have often gone after Sanchez even though he has unique skills.

There has been other stuff like that too. It’s just very strange coming from a purported diehard fan.

Three years, $27M deal with Yankees for Ottavino. Like Britton, a good deal, and also like Britton, good insurance for Betances’s impeding free agency and Chapman hopefully opting out.

That likely concludes the offseason for the Yankees. In the end, it isn’t the moves they made that people will hate (I like them all, personally), it’s the moves they didn’t make.
