Yanks Lock Up Sevy
The Yanks avoided arbititration with their Ace Luis Severino. The deal is reportedly 4/40. with a 5th year option, which I'm sure they will tear up if he's "first half Sevy" over the next four years. The deal does erase the rest of his arbitation years, so this was just a great thing. Let's see what they do for Aaron Judge.

Apart from Rothschild’s continued presence as a mentor I think this is a good deal.
Hicks and Judge should get contracts too, but I hope they don’t extend Didi.
2019: $4M plus $2M signing bonus
2020: $10M
2021: $10.25M
2022: $11M
2023: $15M club option with $2.75M buyout
Good point by RAB:
It’s worth noting Severino will receive $24.25M of the $40M guarantee before the 2022 season. That is significant because the current Collective Bargaining Agreement ends in December 2021, and while I wouldn’t call a work stoppage likely at this point in time, it certainly feels more possible now than at any point in the last 20 years or so. Severino is getting most of his money before a work stoppage could wipe away part of the guarantee.
Speaking about Sonny Gray
“Cincinnati got a steal,” starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery told NJ.com on Thursday.

I can’t believe they were so stubborn they wouldn’t try another pitching coach before giving up on him.
Brian Cashman was asked about Bryce Harper/Manny Machado. He wouldn’t speak about them specifically but said: “I’m doing my job ... we like what we’ve done but we are never a finished product.”
