Frazier hit his second homer of the day, and Estevan Florial is back rehabbing in the GCL.
They’ve had enough success with young players that you would think they wouldn’t bother with fungible veterans like Walker anymore. But... that’s not the word we’re hearing.
McKinney is the type of asset, unlike Frazier, I would trade.
I just don’t think anything will be available worth parting with Frazier over. I would like for him to split time with Stanton in left next year. (I would typically want Stanton to be a full-time fielder but his numbers at DH this year are actually better, even though they’re also good when he’s in left.)
I don’t believe in trading a lot of young prospects for a pitcher; they’re just too fragile. So for example, let’s say Machado wasn’t about to become a free agent and he was under team control, that’s the kind of asset that I would trade Frazier for.
And obviously Cashman‘s poor track record in trading for top of the rotation starters only strengthens the way I feel.
For those that crave more offense on this team instead of pitching that will carry them through the playoffs.

As the Yankees remain mindful of keeping their payroll below $197 million, the team could consider creative trades that limit the amount of salary added. For example: When a player's contract is traded in full, that counts as a credit against the team's luxury tax liability. As such, the Yankees could include Walker's one-year, $4 million in a trade offer -- at which point the other team in the transaction likely would insist on a higher-ranked prospect in exchange for assuming the added payroll.
No team is taking Walker’s contract. It really is all about money. They foolishly gave him this contract and they’re going to try to prive themselves right.
And let’s say they are right, there is still the opportunity cost of not developing Wafe or Drury and 4 million is nothing to them, or shouldn’t be especially when you consider that they still have substantial money available to add payroll without going over the Hal Cap.
It’s just so freaking short-sighted and/or egotistical

Save the chips for something they really need as in a SP or BP arm to shorten the game.
They really are starting Walker at second, and I don’t care what he does it’s stupid, and Gardner should no longer leadoff. He’s a platoon player who should bet ninth whenever he plays.

As I've said before, I think this signifies that it wasn't Girardi and isn't Boone making these lineups in a vacuum — that the front office has, at the very least, a heavy hand in their construction.
Though you would think an analytically driven team would realize Gardner isn't leadoff material anymore. His standing in the clubhouse likely has a lot to do with it, as well as the fact that he's one of the team's few lefty hitters. He at least gets on base at a decent clip, but if Torres were healthy, he should be the one batting first.
I actually don't think trading Walker would be that difficult. Whoever acquired him would only be on the hook for about $2 million, and the Yankees could sell him as someone who needs regular playing time and who didn't have the benefit of a spring training. I don't think he's in NY either way come the trade deadline.
So I guess we’ve reached the point where Gray’s completely mentally shot instead of it simply being Yankee Stadium jitters. I hate it for the guy but you can’t keep sending him out there. It’s best for both parties if he’s sent elsewhere.
Gray can be sent down until Tuesday I think. He can’t pitch in NY as is.

They have done well in development in the last few years but some stupid stubbornness is holding them back.
I think part of the problem is they feel like they have to keep that 13th pitcher as a revolving door of sacrificial lambs anytime someone fails to go deep into games. I also think this team had a tendency to play up or down to its level of competition.

Yep. I’m cool with them resetting the tax this year but they’d better spare no expense going forward.
Interesting that he used the word stubbornness too.
IMO, stubbornness correlates with stupidity.
Not playing Frazier is stupid too.
That’s on ownership, ultimately. Cashman can only operate under the parameters given to him.
Not playing Frazier — now that’s on him. I get that Gardner has paid his dues, but at some point, actual production has to matter, and one could reasonably argue Clint could do no worse with the potential for much better upside while gaining valuable major-league experience.
Ownership didn’t focus on trading for Gray, and I doubt they are forcing him to continue to start him.
Prices are cheaper in the offseason. That was the time to make trades.
There was ample reason to believe after last season that Gray couldn’t cut it here, especially with no change in pitching coach.
Maybe they should have taken a flyer on, for example Aníbal Sánchez.
The parameters of the job net-net are overwhelmingly positive compared to almost every other GM’s situation.
The Yanks signed 34 of 40 picks . That's a lot for them in a draft. Yesterday was the deadline and they Signed Loeske and Reugger to close it out...
Frazier up, Hale down. Does he get real and extended PT.
