Knicks Sign Mario Hezonja

While the Yanks are kicking ass, the Knicks have signed F Mario Hezonja, the 5th overall pick in the 2015 Draft. The Knicks now have the 4th, 5th and 7th (Mudiay) picks from the 2015 NBA Lottery.  Nice.  I liked this guy back in his draft year, but he never really got it going in Orlando. It's a one year deal worth 6.5 from the larger exception.  He'll be Kevin Knox's training wheels.

Remember Dale Ellis taking off on his second team?

Definitely.

From what I have read his strengths are shooting and court vision. His weaknesses are defense (especially fighting through screens) and shot selection.

They have to dump Lee, Thomas, and Noah’s contracts (and maybe Hardaway’s) because if Hezonja is good, utilizing a $7.8 cap hold would affect their ability to offer a max contract. I would not stretch Noah yet. Maybe Fiz can pump up his value.

If no big player wants their max, save the room. Don’t sign some player to save face.

“In our conversations I just told him, ‘I don’t have a position for you. Are you cool with that?’” Fizdale said. “He’s like, ‘Absolutely.’ He doesn’t want to be put in a box. I’m not going to put him in a position to fail. I’m not going to throw him in a situation where he’s going against some brute out there at center and get beat to death. At the same time our league doesn’t really have a lot of those type of guys anymore anymore. He gives me a lot of flexibility to move him to power forward, to center and even some small forward.”
Kristaps Porzingis, when he returns from knee injury, could play any number of positions from power forward to center to small forward.
