Johnny Lasagna Wins Again!

Loaisiga was perfecto into the 4th or fith, then hitless into the 6th before giving up a single, but not runs. This is second scoreless out in his first three outings and Joe West was screwing with him all night.  Aaron Judge homered and playest catch with a little kid, which is why he's probably our best right fielder since Babe Ruth. Giancarlo is also coming around.  Beyond that the NL is for morons.

It will be a great day in baseball history when the NL adopts the DH.

Their greatest asset is their ability to develop guys. The good news is we haven't seen the full effects of that and won't until some of the pitchers are ready.

Boone seemed more complimentary of Loaisiga than Herman. Either way, this is why trades would be foolish and can limit your ceiling. Teams will now want this kid. Their truly expendable pieces are veterans who are good, but have topped out here.

Aaron Boone on Gary Sanchez's DL stint: "Maybe it's a time that we make sure he's staying proactive with the conditioning, so that when he does come back he's in the best possible place so that he can be physically sound the rest of the way."

Axisa puts to rest this craziness that pitchers are better with Romine behind the plate. They aren’t. It’s all Suzyn-esque bullshit.

Austin Romine has been great this season, above and beyond what anyone expected, but, prior to the injury, did anyone really expect Romine to out-produce Sanchez the rest of the season? I sure hope not. The offensive potential is not comparable and the pitching results going into last night’s game were nearly identical with either guy behind the plate:

IP ERA FIP K% BB% AVG/OBP/SLG
Sanchez 456 3.38 3.41 27.4% 8.2% .216/.287/.364
Romine 224 3.54 3.32 26.8% 8.5% .227/.301/.336
Funny how that works, eh? Almost like the guys actually throwing the pitches matter more than the guy behind the plate.

Sanchez doesn't have to catch Gray.

I doubt they’d be much difference though over a larger sample size unless Gray is weaker mentally than I could imagine.

Olney thinks the National League will adopt the DH in 3 to 5 years.

I’m not a fan of Hicks leading off because is in a particularly good hitter.

According to Ben Badler (subs. req’d), the Yankees are tied to Cuban right-hander Osiel Rodriguez for the 2018-19 international signing period. It’s worth noting that when a team is “tied” or “connected” or anything like that to a player prior to the open of the signing period, it usually means an agreement is already in place.
Rodriguez, 16, is currently ranked as the ninth best prospect for the 2018-19 international signing period by MLB.com. Here is a snippet of their scouting report:

The right-hander’s fastball has been clocked at 97 mph and the pitch usually hovers in the low to mid-90s. There is some concern about a drop in velocity at times, but evaluators attribute the decrease to normal fatigue or being overworked on the showcase circuit. A strike-thrower, Rodriguez has a good mound presence and demeanor. He changes his arm slot and throws several different pitches at different angles, which has proven to be both a blessing and a curse as far as scouts are concerned.

Evaluators love his “big arm,” but the club that signs him might ask the teenager to refine his approach and focus on only three pitches. He has an unorthodox — sometimes described as a ‘violent” — delivery, but it has not impacted his pitchability.

You know I've always believe Sanchez was the best C and best defensive C of the two. Heck, before Higgy had TJS, he was a better C, too.

Changing arm-slots is Classicly Cuban Pitcher stuff. Like El Tiante and El Duque. I think we'll have another great class. This time with more pitchers than last year's multi-bat haul.

If Cessa pitches well will Gray want Higgy to catch him too?
