Ranger Take Prep RW Riley Huges at 216
The Rangers traded back into the draft and acquired to the second to last pick. There they took RW Riley Hughes out of the St. Sebastians School in MA. He's a Northeastern commit. Good skate, good vision and good hands. This could mean a couple of things. First, he's from Needham, MA, and Coach Quinn might have been trying to recruit him to BU. Second, the whole Ranger Boston crew could know his Dad who's an agent. Finally, it could indicate that the Rangers were working from a short board, and when they saw one of their guys was still available, they felt he was worth dipping back in and securing. Interesting move. I tend to think it could be part ringer, part short board which I will discuss later, but essentially it means that while many teams had 7 rounds worth of player Rankings, the Rangers didn't find 7 rounds of worthy players and didn't bother with the various name players in whom they had no conviction.

The Rangers always seem to need to draft players in the 7th round, usually their Euro specials..a college player would be the same type that they can hold for a bit and let develope ...kinda a draft and follow..
