Yanks Sign Former Brave IFA Angel Rojas
BA says the Yanks gave SS Angel Rojas 350K today he's about the 5th or 6th player they have signed from the 3.5 Million they had pooled for a run at Ohtani. They signed an RHP, Renzo Mejia, earlier this week. Rojas was from this year's IFA class and had originally been had for 300K by the Braves. Now he's either proved a bit more or there was competition or both. The Yanks now have more SS prospects than they could fit in the stadium on a given day. And they have even more RHP's.
UPDATE: I think the time when teams and players start approaching arbitration dates is nigh, so we could see some of these younger guys like Machado and Cole traded in the next few days. I happen to think the Yanks have turned attention to Manny, and moving another salary to make room for a free agent starter, rather than making one trade for Manny and then another for Cole or someone. I think they'll have to move Ellsbury (please!) or Gardy or Robertson to make room for Manny's arb salary as well as what they'd need to sign Darvish or whomever. Of course, Gardy and Robertson are true Yanks, so let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Rarely have I seen so many pixels wasted over what can only be considered a mediocre pitcher. I read that the Yankees want him because of their analytics, but analytics should uncover bargains, not premium-priced players.
Those "analytics" had to do with his homer numbers going up. But his spin rate is average and that's probably the problem. And the Yanks care more about spin rate than homers, which they know will be high in YS unless someone is a serious groundball pitcher - like Sonny Gray was - but wasn't for the Yanks.
Right, so there has never been any need to consider pursuing him.
The other possibility is that since the Yanks drafte him, and later signed the Pittsburgh scout, who probably also had something with the Bucs drafting him - they see something fixable that can make him a top pitcher. That's what the Yanks did with Red Ruffing a zillion years ago.
What starter have they really fixed?
Anyway, it all reverts back to price, and I would not even trade Frazier or Andujar even up for him. Trading Hicks, however, would make sense because he is what Cole is: nconsistent with perhaps illusory potential.
The current pitching staff? No one I can think of, but historically a few guys.
Brandon McCarthy after they got him mid season from dbacks.
Yanks should try to resolve as many if the 8 eligible players as they can to see where they stand for payroll.
Darvish has interest in the Yankees, We will see if they can find the money.
Yanks willing to pay half of Ellsbury's contract to move him. That would free up about 10M to land Darvish/Frazier.
I don’t think that’s enough to move him. Not wild about Frazier.
Yanks will bring in a veteran infielder. There is no way they open the season with 2 rookies in Andujar and Torres.
Then get somebody who is actually good.
Yep. If you're gonna bring in someone who stinks, you might as well just go with the rookie who has upside.

Tommy Kahnle, yanks settle st $1.3125M
I will be surprised if there is an actual arbitration hearing for any of them.
Hicks returns at 2.825M

"Do we recognize Yu Darvish as a unique talent and a premier starting pitcher in the marketplace?" Cashman said. "Yes we do. Would we be one of the last teams standing (in any bidding for Darvish)? I can't answer that.
"I do think there are things we can do to create (payroll) flexibility. And that's why you stay engaged with high-end guys in the marKetplace."
Yup, I see a complex series of moves coming up, and Jake Cave and Billy McKinney vying for 4th OF.
