This Week on the Blog

It was a surprising week as the Giants scrapped their plans for a long and exhaustive GM search and hired Dave Gettleman. He says he's here to kick ass, and we'll have to see about that.  Levine spoke and said the Yanks aren't done - which we are all a little worried about.  The Knicks kepy losing close games on the road, and the Rangers keep getting points, though Chris Kreider has a scary injury. Let's take a look at this coming week.

Giants: New Year's Day will coincide with Black Monday in the NFL.  The day when lots of coaches and coaching staffs annually get canned.  The Giants will be able to start interviewing those guys and also the coaches from teams who have a first round bye, like the Pats and the stinking Eagles.  This will be a huge decision for the GMen, and they can't afford a Reeves type retread just to restore adequacy after their Handley type mistake with McAdoo.

Yankees: We'll find out if that Gerrit Cole rumor is true or false in pretty short order.  If not, let's hope the Yanks have come up with a better plan over the holidays.

Knicks:  The Knicks are hard to judge, because their best players are young and still experiencing growing pains, they don't know how to win yet, and their coach might not have figured out their most beneficial rotations yet.  Lance Thomas and Jarret Jack are playing too often and it's hurting.  They have had some moments of clarity and because they play hard, they're not as hard to watch as some of the Melo or Startbury teams were.

Rangers: The Rangers lost a shootout last night after winning one earlier this week. At least they're getting points.  They called up Lettieri but I was watching football and missed his debut last night. Still think the Rangers sould look to sell, as their best talent seems to be in the World Juniors and KHL, and not their veterans in the NHL. We'll see if they have the same sagacity the Yanks showed when they finally bit the bullet and sold at the 2016 deadline. The Rangers could change courses and fates as quickly as they Yanks did with the right moves.  Also, the outdoor game Monday should be a blast.

So there it is, a coaching hunt, Yankee truth, Knick foibles and an outdoor hockey game.  Have a great week and the happiest and most joyful of New Years.

The choice of HC will either confirm or begin to assuage my deep skepticism about what seems to me, at least on the surface, to be yet another move by the (in over his head) owner to pretend that the organization is fine and incremental moves will suffice, despite what imo is overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Hart getting waived?

more importantly Marc Ross getting fired. This is why I said I will reserve my judgement on Gettleman hiring as a status quo hiring. He's more qualified than Riddick and just showed he has his own vision too.

Hart waived, Pat Traina says Flowers could be gone also,

Give Reese his old job back. It was one he was actually good at, unlike GM.

What a moron. If you didn’t like the hire, Hart changes that?
Traina
So...anyone out there still upset that Gettleman was hired to be the GM???

Last week, I heard here on the radio defending not playing Webb.

I have to say Rich is spot on with his opinions. I made it known, I wasn’t a fan of Gettleman, nothing personal against him. It was more of what Rich had said, Mara’s incompetence is my issue. If he stays out of he way, and let’s DG do his job, that will show us something. That said, he’s off to a good start.

Huge win!

Isn’t Trey Burke lkley better than Sessions? If any team can sign him, it’s probably time to act.

Nothing makes me angrier about “journalism” than this from Bondy. Put a f’ing name to it or it’s worthless:

Still, his offensive deficiencies have been clear for a player shooting just 36 percent before Saturday with a 3.5/1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio. Both an NBA scout and executive told the Daily News they the 19-year-old is better suited as an off-guard operating without the ball.

Trey Burke is probably a top 5 player on the team. I don't see what the hold-up is.

From some Yankee site

According to this article, Bobby Mitchell is slated to be promoted from manager of the Double-A Trenton Thunder to Triple-A. But who will manage the Thunder? Rumor has it that Jay Bell, manager of the High-A Tampa will head to Trenton to do just that.

Yeah, Bell will manage Trenton. Now we have to see how this effects the rest of the system.

Some in Knicks organization want to call up Trey Burke before G League Showcase but they’d first have to clear roster spot

It would seem easy given this roster.

Very easy.

I just came across a piece in pinstripe alley or something like that, saying they should trade Gardner. I agree with it because if you can’t trade Ellsbury and you have to cut salary under the HalCap in order to get a pitcher, and if it’s about a free-agent signing rather than a trade, then it’s a business. So in my opinion you have to do it.

I would rather wait and risk losing him

Heyman
nothing is close yet, but the yankees talked recently to the orioles about manny machado. and of all the interested teams, they just might have the best chance. bit.ly/2Eem9Df
