This Week on the Blog

Alright, last night Tim Hardaway Jr. returned to the Knicks and looked good in limited minutes, so that was good, and we'll get to the rest.  In other news, the Rangers still looked like a team that should sell, the Giants are still looking for a Coach, and the Yanks are hanging comfortably in their leverage.  Let's take a a look at the coming week.

Giants: The Giants have reportedly narrowed their field to Patricia, Shurmur and McDaniels. Of course, there are still 4 openings, and they could be out of luck if all three guys take other jobs.  So, I think they already know which way they'll go and are just playing around with the League's narrative of no back channels and false transparency.  So, unless the Pats and or Vikes lose, we're probably a ways away from an clarity.  Of course, if the Lions hire Vrabel in the meantime, we'll know we have a coach.

Yankees: Cash was making the radio rounds this week, and intimated his desire to add either a veteran IF or a starting pitching.  Given what the money situation is after the Yanks signed all 8 of their arbitration eligible players, the easiest thing to do would be to sign or trade for one or the other but not both. Their inability to move any part of the Ellsbury deal has them a bit hamstrung, and moving easily tradeable salaries like Gardy's or DRob's could hurt the onfield product.  So, the Yanks are going to have to be really clever or just keep all powder dry till next offseason.  We'll see what they do.

Rangers: The Rangers need a new coach and should be sellers at the deadline.

Knicks: The Knicks got Tim Hardaway Jr. back last night, and played pretty well for 3 quarters, but collapsed again in the 4th,  They have a serious problem with their rotation and Hornacek has exposed Jarret Jack to the point of failure.  The Knicks also seem to need a new coach - as KP is not being deployed properly - and the Knicks should also be sellers at the deadline.

Alright, there you have it, two teams that should sell, one team that needs a quick turnaround, and the Yanks just chilling. Have a great week.

UPDATE: Ramon Sessions has been waved and Trey Burke is likely on the way.

Update Sessions was waived

Just saw that and added it.

They need to waive Jack because he plays way too much, can’t guard anyone, and is TO prone in big spots. KP is regressing, and that cannot be allowed to happen if this management wants to be viewed as competent.

I think moving Robertson would hurt, but I think they would be fine without Gardner. I like him a lot, but I think it’s in their best interests, much more so than trading any top prospects.

Also, I don’t want any HC who would keep Spags. To me, it’s laughable anyone could think that makes sense. When 3 players on your side of the ball get suspended, you failed.

Jack had 8 turnovers last night, and is part of the problem for KP. Both Jack and Lee go through phases where they think they are the #1 scoring option.

Trading DRob would probably force them to turn Cessa or one of the others into a reliever. They have a bunch on the way, so though it might hure short term, it wouldnt be like not having Bird for most of the last two seasons.

That’s why he needs to be waived. Hornacek will give Burke limited PT, perhaps primarily at Frank’s expense, and the only thing we will learn is that Jack still sucks. Management needs to realize that at this point the future is much more important than the present and force that mindset on the HC.

Rich to your point, both coaches st MSG need to go. They both are hampering youth movements, and are stubborn in their ways. Quite frankly they both are not good at their jobs.

Astros are getting Gerrit Cole for 2 prospects according to Tim Brown or Yahoo. They are RHP Joe Mosgrove and 3B Colin Moran.

Have no idea why the Pirates wanted so much more from the Yanks.

Good, glad we did not give Frazier away for him. Best trade they made was the one they did not.

So Pirates are also getting 2 more players from the Astros.

Yanks must be onto something different. Not seeing anything they couldn't easily beat.

Also please fire AV already, they have clearly tuned him out. Hornacek should be right behind him. Embarrassing loss today.

Darvish possibly?

ESPN Patricia to the Lions

Just my opinion but I think this is all the result of a cumbersome process led by a meddling owner who is too arrogant to delegate.

If Josh McDaniels ends up in Indianapolis, hearing one of the tipping points will be roster control. He would not be getting the same kind of authority with Giants he is expected to get from Colts.

The above was a duplicate.

So mostly Jack, little Frank, no Burke. Wake me when it changes

I don’t hate Hornacek because it’s tough to win without a good PG, but his myopia is precluding any chance of possibly finding an in-house solution.

Since it continues unchecked, blame asi resides with Perry/Mills.

“Frank’s an amazing player,” Michael Beasley said. “He has to learn what pace he wants to go. But as soon as he figures it out, Frank will be an easy triple-double guy. Easy triple-double.”

Frank is the goods, but he has the wrong coach.

I usually find myself in the “fire” camp. I’m not there yet with him. It’s on Perry-Mills too. For all we know, they want Jack to play. Perry signed him.

Now, if a great coach became available, but that would be true in any sport, in any situation. It’s a business first.

Sell.

At 7:44 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

They should sell and get a new coach. That team should not be losing like this when they have so many useful pieces.

At 9:04 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I’m not opposed to any of that, but Perry had made it clear that he wants to make the playoffs. So I’m not sure it’s merely about the coach.

Although I want Burke to play a lot until he shows that he can’t be part of the solution, Frank will likely be the one losing minutes. Given that he is a project, he can only develop if he plays.

No to Kemba Walker, but if AD becomes available...
