Giants Reportedly Down to 3 Finalists

The beat guys are reporting the Giants have settles on 3 candidates for there second round of interviews, all of which will feature Steve Tisch.  The finalists are Patricia, Shurmur and McDaniels.   Somewhat surprisingingly, Wilks is out.  What's left are two Offensive Whiz Bangs, in Shurmur and McDaniels, and the defensive descentant of Parcells and Belichick in Patricia.  Looking back on what Gettleman said before this process began - that defensive guys make the better HC's - now tells me he was thinking specifically of the 2 Bills, rather than at a larger survey.

I fully expect that Matt Patricia will be the next Head Coach. McDaniels is said to want more control that the George Young modeled front office the Giants won't abandon.  Shurmur might be a little too much like McAdoo.

Interesting final group, and each probably could succeed but only one will get the chance.

I’m fine with Patricia, but the front office model hasn’t exactly been humming.

Was just doing a Periscope. Said Patricia was the top choice. McDaniels & Shurmur were 2A & 2B. Sure seems like the Giants have picked their guy. Just can't make it official yet. A lot of different reporters have Patricia as the top guy.

3 GM's 5 superbowl appearances and 4 wins since `79. Tied for second, and shorted out of some more SB's by Parcells and Plax.

And also the field crew in San Francisco.

I think they think Patricia is the descendant of the Bills.

The machine that produced Super Bowls has been dead for years.

If you want to look at the bright side, it may be that the death of that machine was Gettleman’s departure.

Might have been. But Odell is the best player they've had since LT, and we could easily look at McAdoo as Perkins.

No doubt and I think drafting OBJ saved Reese’s job, unfortunately.

Also drafting JPP. And winning 2 SB in his first 4 years.

Rich, your latest comment didn't post, but I have been warning about and opining about the fall of the original line since the second half of 2008. 2010 they fixed it a bit with Shawn Andrews, but that was absolutely the Reese's and the Giants and TC's and McAdoo's downfall.

There were 3 problems with the way they tried to maintain the OL. 1) they started drafting for "ceiling" instead of "floor" see, Whimper, Beatty, Petrus, and Flowers. 2) they thought they could put it together with late picks like Diehl and hitting on UDFA's like they did with Seubert - and they whiffed on both. 3) injuries to Baas, Schwartz, Pugh, etc.

What's more their last great line became a model for the rest of the league and they were repeatedly beaten to their guys on draft weekends.

But that was it. The OL undid everything.

If they don’t get one of their top three candidates, it may means that their shit stinks so bad because they did nothing for too long to fix this thing.

The other factor could be that their cumbersome process prevents them from making quick decisions. I mean, Mara and Tisch know more about selecting a head coach than Gettleman? Really? But they refused to completely delegate authority apparently.

My optimistic note: I don’t think this will happen. They will get one of the top three. But what if it comes down to making promises in terms of authority or paying significantly more if necessary?

Rich, I agree with you in thst we have one of the three, but can’t say anything until they are eliminated..

I think they're just trying to act compliant. Should be an interesting weekend.

The more I think about it, make him a blow away financial offer, give him whatever power he wants. Be the NYY of football. They don’t lose out to teams in Detroit.
