Signs of Life
Okay, the Yanks just won a game, which is always nice. But more importantly, after looking perplexed again against another bad pitcher, Judge, Hicks and Sanchez all homered and it no longer made a difference. Judge also walked. Sanchez also had a hit and sac fly. Hicks had two hits. Green, Robertson and Betances were all sharp in relief of Cessa, who seems to have left with an injury. Judge's homer was to right, so he might be getting his groove back. As of right now, Judge and Sanchez both have 40 career homers. Which is a great way to start their respective careers.
UPDATE: Cessa has a right rhomboid injury, and will get an MRI tomorrow.

Funny how the outcome is different when Chapman doesn't pitch.
Sanchez may be getting on the kind a role where you can carry the team.
All they need is bullpens management.
Bullpen management, a healthy Holliday, a healthy Castro that isn't a tease and Judge to come around.
Biird starts his rehab on Wednesday, and he could come up and hit a bunch of homers like he did two years ago.
Right. Then who will play 3B? I would opt for Headley.
Judge AB's are more concerning for me, he's still walking but he's no longer scoffing at the borderline pitches that he did in the 1st half.
I took my dad to the game on Saturday and he hasn't been in a few years and he was amazed at how clueless & classless some fans are. It's quite amazing really, some of the comments we heard were offensive and some were just laugh out loud funny. Some guy was saying Severino was our 5th starter and should have been out after the first hr. Ugh.
I was there too.
As I alluded to on the other thread, there was a jerk behind me who really got close to stepping over the line.
Relatedly, at NYG train camp last year, I heard a guy yelling about how Nassib should start.
So Axisa correctly talks about Sanchez having been vilified and that Wade should be playing more. But he doesn't mention Girardi's role in both issues. Mediots.
He also speculates that Jeter could poach Denbo.
On Judge: Just from watching him last night (I can't watch games regularly down South so I don't know if it's been the same for all of them), it appeared to me that his timing was simply off. Boone was saying the same thing in the booth for ESPN last night. The elite plate discipline remaining there through the slump is a good sign. I've been as down on him as ever, but I think he'll get it figured out eventually, I just really hope it's during the rest of the season.
On Sanchez and Wade: I don't really have a problem with how Girardi handled Sanchez. It's not like he went out of his way to criticize him publicly; he was asked a question and responded. The decision to sit him almost definitely came from above. Wade, on the other hand, has been handled poorly, and that is on Joe. I understand he's looked overmatched at the plate so far, but playing him so sparingly isn't doing him any good, and despite the occasional big hit from Torreyes, the latter isn't a significant offensive upside to be playing so much. I thought Wade looked good as SS yesterday. I also joked on Twitter Girardi likely wouldn't play him again after the throwing error in the ninth.
Why do you think it came from above, and why should Girardi say anything publicly, especially when his GM attributed to overtraining?
That makes it unlikely that it was Cashman and as much as I loathe Levine as a person, I cannot fathom that he or Hal would order him to sit.
As I have said, McCann was awful at blocking pitches and all we heard from Girardi was crickets
I figure any major disciplinary decision is at the very least discussed with Girardi by the higher-ups, as I figure is the case with the minor league managers. It just doesn't feel like something Girardi would do unless he consulted with his bosses. I realize that's speculation, but considering how much Cashman's future is tied to the development of guys like Sanchez, it makes sense to me.
Veteran McCann was likely at the point in his career where public comments would have only been detrimental.
I should add, the day Girardi made his public comments he also said Sanchez was starting the next day. A day later, Sanchez sat. That, to me, indicates he was ordered to discipline him by his higher ups -- or, at the very least, they strongly suggested it.
Why wouldn't that just be an example of Girardi thinking about it and then deciding to act?
Now if a Yankee player was benched after refusing to stand for the national anthem, then I would blame the higher-ups.
Cashman has said, over the years, that he doesn't make up the lineups or give iinput there except for unusual instances, like telling Torre to keep playing Cano. Anyway, Girardi has overplayed Romine all year, before Sanchez had the passed balls, and especially when he should have been giving more chances to Higgy, who is flat better than Romine and has been for years.
Bird to play at SWB 5IP Wed. Could be activated next week.
The NYDN jerk actually wrote this:
Prior to his injury, the Yankees first baseman was woeful with the bat, posting just a .100 average with a single home run in 72 plate appearances.

Pro tip: he was injured in spring training
I can't remember, was there a problem with Torre not playing Cano in '05?
I remember him comparing Cano to Carew.
Todd Frazier looks fooled in every AB, not just deGrom.
I'm impressed with how Hicks has just picked up where he left off.
Kay: 1st hit with RISP in a Gray start. Were 0--5
0-15
Girardi showing no feel for Gray.
Terminally stubborn
Muscle pull to obscure further incompetence?
