Yanks Begin Post Deadline Promotions

After the deadline, ever year, worthy players start getting promoted.  Today was no exception.  Dermis Garcia will have to give up his condo in Pulaski, and so will his buddy, Steven Sensley because they are just both promoted to the Charleston RiverDogs, in full season Low A.  Dermis is still 19, and thus young to be playing for the Dogs. This gets his age/level more in line with what you'd expect from him.  He's had a couple of injuries, but he also just homered 4 games in a row.  Sensely who was picked in June, may be proving himself to be the ringer we suspected he is.

In other news, Estevan Florial and SS Hoy Park are headed to the Tampa Yanks in High A.  All of Dermis, Florial and Park are from that big 2014 class, and Florial is also still 19 and inline with where a star might be in his development.

Finally, (so far, there will be more) Nick Solak and Jeff Hendrix were promoted to Trenton.  Solak is a pure 2B with pop, and Hendrix is a fast guy who's finally put it together at the plate.  This is an appropriate age for steady college climbers.   Exciting stuff, but this time of year will also probably produce a few releases.

Anyway, Pulaski needs more guys, and interestingly, no one, yet has been promoted from SI, which is usually the feeder for Charleston.

Update: Just heard Austin Aune was released.  Former 5 tool hopeful and second round pick everyone was excited about.

Their Hicks just demonstrates the importance of grinding out an AB

And a stellar play by Wade.

Ump prolonged the ab of the guy who hit the homer by calling a strike 3 a ball.

At 4:48 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Yes, but he took advantage of it and extended the AB.

At 4:58 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Yes, but he was already out.

Meanwhile, Tyler Wade with a hustel double. Damn he's fast. Now he's on third!

That was pathetic.

Just saw a crazy good catch by AJack

Gardy just saved Robertson from having another bad outing.

At 7:11 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Would be nice if he didn't have to pitch every other day.

At 7:12 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Terrible effort by the lineup tonight. Spectacularly awful the way they through away AB's. Didn't even look like a playoff team.

At 7:44 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Sure, Mike, but that's part of the myth of Girardi's infallibility.

At 9:49 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Guys are going to have to start hitting like they're capable of hitting if this team has any real postseason aspirations.

At 3:54 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Judge carried them, then Clint and Gardner, and lately Didi.

Holliday has been abysmal fir a while. Hicks should replace him.

Right now, I would think T. Frazier's playng time should be more at risk than Headley's when Bird returns in a few weeks.

At 11:40 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Why was Tanaka pitching the day game again?

At 12:34 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Time to drop Judge in the order until he figures things out. He, Holliday and Clint aren't hitting at all right now, hence the lack of offense.

At 1:15 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I think they have overrated where this team is right now and it wasn't worth trading big prospects at this time.

I think these moves were a business decision over a baseball decision.

It's not a second guess; that's what I've been saying.

All I can do is hope the offense wakes up and the pitching is remains credible.

At 1:27 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

The run differential was significant enough to justify trying to compete; plus, some of the moves were made for beyond this season.

I hope Hicks brings some much-needed patience when he returns.

At 1:55 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I don't think you can make a decision on that alone.

Especially the first trade.

I just don't see what they see...yet

At 2:29 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I didn't see any of the game ( I will check it out when it resumes) but just looking at the box score Tanaka seems like he pitched OK.

At 4:10 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Seriously, I just saw a called strike to Headley in the sixth; where are the robots?

At 5:05 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Got into trouble in the first but was fine after that (going by box score). Apparently the second run was Ellsbury's fault somehow.

At 5:44 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Frazier and Holliday continue to destroy this offense. You shouldn't get the bin of the doubt given the limited tenure here.

Maybe Andujar should be considered.

At 5:53 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Ellsbury misplayed a skipping LD hit right at him, kind of skipping past him. It's the futility will runners in scoring position that really killed him.

At 11:19 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Must win.

The nonexistent TFraz and Hollow bats are sitting, as is Judge.

I didn't realized the degree to which Kluber has improved at a relatively late age for baseball.

At 4:23 PM, Blogger Rich said...

D letting Gray down.

At 4:26 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Normal sized 3B gets that throw.

At 6:19 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Sanchez hits his 17th for our first run in two games. Gray was really good till late. Shreve makes it harder.

At 6:35 PM, Blogger Rich said...

C. Frazier has a hit. Big when the team isn't hitting by

At 9:06 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

It seems clear to me the illness that Holliday came down with is still having lingering effects. I get trying to get him going, but at some point I wonder if it's best to have Andujar DH? When rosters expand, if Holliday still isn't hitting, it may be time to do that.

At 4:07 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Two notes

After his double in the fourth inning, 14 of Frazier’s 25 big league hits have been for extra bases.

In the Yankees’ three-game losing streak, they have two hits in 21 at-bats with runners in scoring position.

At 6:24 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Offensive offensively

...slashing a season-worst .237/.313/.400 in July

At 9:49 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think they should DFA Holliday and bring up Jake Cave and let him DH. He's having a mpnster steason.

At 11:53 AM, Blogger Rich said...

It would be out of character for them, but I'm all for it

At 7:01 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I really hope I'm wrong but I think they made a pretty significant miscalculation about how good they are.

At 7:51 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

They probably did, but fortunately, the pieces they acquired will help beyond this year.

At 8:43 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The Gray trade, yeah.

A different manager might help. It would also freak out the faction that thinks any Girardi criticism is ridiculous. That would be fun.

At 9:10 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Did Girardi "rip" Sanchez?

At 10:06 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Not really. Said he needed to improve on defense, which was simply stating the truth.

At 3:37 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I just saw that. So it was tabloid bs.

I would still fire him. Except for the 8-2 tease they have sucked since the serial Clippard implosions Girardi enabled.

Maybe they can be waiver wire sellers.

Wonder who the new manager would be if Girardi doesn't come back.

At 7:41 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I hope they'd want one of their minor league managers

At 7:42 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Finally a smart point by the RAB Twitter feed. You don't see it Sanchez so that Romine might block one more ball.

At 8:23 AM, Blogger Rich said...

see = sit

If you read the article he drives home the point that Girardi is all about veterans and it's a bad fit at this point in time

At 5:58 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I understand trying to get him back on track, because if you do, he's a valuable bat in the middle of the order. At the same time, at some point, you have to try something else.

At 7:10 PM, Blogger Rich said...

He's 37 and has had something wrong for the last 3 sessions

Clint otoh sits when cold.

At 7:11 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Any way great win despite the over managing.

At 7:24 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Big win. Will post the weekly preview tomorrow.

At 2:01 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Girardi is dangerous to pitchers' health, has OCD with bullpen deployment, incompetent as hell given his lineup deployment, obsessed with Sanchez's defense when McCann was much worse and he remained silent publicly, and I'm freakin sick of it.

At 3:55 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Gonna Girardi him here a bit. He was asked a question pertaining to Sanchez and gave an honest response, but wasn't overly critical. The decision to sit him today may have come from above — in fact, I think it's likely it did come from above. Part of developing young players is knowing when to try and light a fire under them, as well as make it clear they shouldn't just assume a starting job is theirs by default.

Now, if Girardi starts buying into the idea that Sanchez should be a DH and Romine should start at catcher regularly, then it becomes a problem, but Joe's comments to the media today suggest that isn't what's going to happen.

I have my issues with Girardi; namely, that he's failed to evolve his bullpen philosophy to more modern thinking, and he is sometimes loyal toward veterans to a fault. He also clearly doesn't trust Montgomery, as evidence by pulling him after five innings yesterday and sending him down today. But I have no problem with anything related to his management of Sanchez. A message needed to be sent, bottom line.

At 4:22 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

*defend Girardi

At 4:38 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Ok, I think his messages only go to kids.

At 4:51 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Also, they sent Montgomery down. Do we know that Grace is better?

At 5:49 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I'm curious about that move. I'd like to hear an explanation from management.
