This Week on the Blog
The Yanks just put Tananaka on the DL with shoulder inflammation. Yikes. They've called up Gio Gonzalez, who has been pretty unimpressive in his previous appearances. So this week is ending unpleasantly. So let's take a look at the one coming up.
Yanks: The Yanks are playing the Red Sox and Mets for awhile. Last night's comeback win was HUGE, but they have to keep it going today with their ace on the mound. I think the Sox will try to load up on first pitch fastballs, so I hope the Yanks recognize that and adjust if that happens. Montgomery is back up for CC and will pitch tomorrow. We'll see if they recall another starter, for Tanaka in the coming week. Now would be a good time for a winstreak, or to at least start winning all series for awhile.
Giants: the Giants first team D looked great last night, and Goodson showed some promise at the MIKE. The OL didn't look good, although Bisnowaty did look solid with the 2's and 3's. Wheeler was beaten badly twice, but also showed so athletecism. Engram was used mostly for blocks and did catch the one ball thrown his way for a first down. The other two presumptive roster TE's looked good. Shane Smith had a big block on a 4th and one, and caught a pass, so maybe they will go with 3 TE's and an FB, afterall. But it's early, and everything was mostly vanilla, so who knows. None of the good WR's played, and none of the WR's who played were good. Johnson was horrible, Geno was solid, but had a bad pick, and Davis Webb was impressive, but was playing with scrubs.
Rangers: Rangers don't seem to be up to much. If they don't make a trade for C, we probably won't hear much from them till the Traverse City Tournament.
Knicks: The Knicks announced the signings of Sessions and Beasley and are apparently communicating with Houston but still hoping Melo will expand his list. KP is playing C for Latvia, and had 24/12 and two blocks against Poland. Wasn't playing really playing with his back to the basket in the clips I saw. So let's hope, KP, Willy and Kuz stay healthy through their international adventures.
So there it all is. Have a great week, and let's go Yanks!
UPDATE: Jordan Montgomery was hit in the side of the head by a baseball while signing autographs earlier today. This is according to RAB. He's supposed to pitch tomorrow, but we'll have to see if that's still the plan.

RAB/Axisa made this point: What are the chances we find out the elbow thing has been there all season and that's why Tanaka has been so bad at times?
He's really only been bad during his day starts. but yeah, with an opt out coming up he'd probably try to work to prove health, even if there's a problem. This is supposed to be shoulder, not elbow, though.
Bryan Hoch:
Masahiro Tanaka told the Yankees that his arm feels tired. Nothing structural. They're essentially giving him a 10-day break.
*Sorry, meant shoulder.
Compensating for the elbow could have affected his mechanics.
I'm not sure I've ever been as down on a player as I am on Judge presently. Guy hasn't had a multi-hit game since July 18 -- that's nearly an entire month. Does he look as bad out there as his box scores indicate?
Sevy could not command his breaking ball but Todd Frazier sucks. Shit trade.
Someone said this on Twitter in recent days, and I agree: How does a team with the resources of the Yankees field a product so mediocre for five straight seasons?
They' finally changed paths. But then they spit the bit again. The have < 0 foresight.
Worst game I ever attended. Left after 7.
Even in the comfort of my home after being in a humid stadium with a freakin loud jerk behind us, the Frazier error still really pisses me off.
The idea that this team could be great never made sense to me, but they shouldn't be this bad
Still pissed.
What is going on with the decision making process of this "team in transition" when they halve been linked to Duda, Bruce, and Walker and traded for Todd Frazier.
That is why they keep limiting their ultimate ceiling.
That, not opposition to trading for one Soriano, and signing another Soriano as a FA, is what Cashman should publicly oppose.
I would have liked Bruce or Duda as DH/1B personally, because this team desperately needs a bat and they were short-term plugs.
The team's veteran regulars — Gardner, Ellsbury, Headley, T. Frazier and Holliday — simply aren't good enough as a collective. Like I said before, they need better veterans.
I'm about the next few seasons or more, not this one
Bruce had a big adjustment we first got to the Mets What if we had the same thing here? Then he is Todd Frazier all over again
Rich, I was at their last "good" game before the slide. Maybe you were at their last bad game and now they'll take off.
Cool!

Yes another argument for a universal strike zone based on technology.
The umps are also screwing him away and off the plate. But he's got the talent to adjust. And the adjustment can start any day now.
Bird - rehab assignments on Wed.
Castro - Fri.
/Duda /Walker
Hopefully they get Bird and Castro by the end of the month.
As long ad Girardi remains the manager Cashman cannot be considered a good GM.
Gonna try to be as level-headed as possible, so here it goes...
Those who focus on the disappointment of this series miss the bigger picture. That bigger pictured is, as I mentioned above, the fact that this organization has fielded a mediocre product for five straight years. Is that Girardi's fault? I would say no. Despite all of his faults, it's the teams he was handed as Hal and co. tried to dupe the fanbase into thinking it was championship-caliber. Now, when they've finally chosen to actually rebuild, they're suddenly demanding these promising young players carry the team to not only a playoff berth, but a deep playoff run, because the veterans are too washed up to do the leading.
That simply isn't fair, and it's an indictment on this organization that, for all the money they've spent, they've barely got anything to show for it in the way of production when it comes to their highest-paid players. When the time comes to finally spend again — and it will come no later than the 2018-19 offseason — they are going to have to take a long, hard look at which players they choose to pursue. Whoever they spend that money on, they'd better be damn sure it's money well-spent this time around.
As for Girardi, the bottom line is I don't think he's the one to manage the transition to a new core. If nothing else, the team looks like it could desperately use a new voice, to say nothing about his poor bullpen management or his loyal-to-a-fault approach when it comes to certain players. Surely there's someone out there who can bring the right touch.
Mike, I don't disagree with you, but they were in a position to win this game, as they have been in a position to win many games this season, and his bullpen management destroyed that chance.
And as a counterpoint, they still have a growing young core that's has the potential to get a lot better. But the moves they made, possibly with the exception of Gray, and the moves they tried to make and we're unable to, are not in line with being as good as you can as soon as you can. The concur system with pretending to contend at a high-level. (i.e., Cashman's words of going from good to great.)
Back to what they do have, on Friday even Girardi's former teammates O'Neill and Cone said that he should use the hot hand in the pen given Chapman's inconsistencies. But Girardi is as flexible as toilet paper in boiling oil.
I don't understand how people think he's even a good manager, Let alone immune from criticism as some like to pretend.
concur system = consistent with
Jack Curry:
Girardi on Chapman: "He's our closer. I have a ton of belief in him." Girardi said Chapman threw as well last night as he has all season.
I heard it in the post game last night. That's why he's an incompetent boob
I think he''s mismanaged the kids, the bullpen and the rotation since CC went down the first time. Cessa should never have gotten all these fricking starts. Also, it is beyond me that pro hitting coaches haven't been able to get Judge, who was simple to start the season, back to simple.
Hicks, Judge and Sanchez are some of the few good things about this lineup, so this was an enjoyable outcome despite the absurdity of only tagging Montero for two runs.
If the Knicks trade Porzingis for Irving, with or without Noah's contract included, they are beyond redemption.
Dolan wants to trade Porzingis?
