Sources: Timmy's Back

Breaking all over Twitter, Atlanta won't match, and Tim Hardaway Jr. is once again a Knick. All the scouts are saying that he's a different player than when he left, and is also ascendant, having averaged over 18 ppg when he was made a starter with about 6 weeks left in the season. This gives the Knicks another long, athletic player who can hit threes, score and is athletic enough to become a good defender.  Now, this is only a really bad move if they can't move Lee.

I would have preferred they tank, and I don't want Melo's money used for some fungible PG, as has been reported. So this all seems suboptimal and Mills has too much power given that they were supposedly hiring new management, but it's not like I can do anything about it.

Agreed, we are collecting players that will give us a shot at the #9-12 seed, which is nothing.

Knicks GM Steve Mills says Tim Hardaway Jr. fits the Knicks' core, with an emphasis on youth and unselfishness. "Bringing back Tim to his original NBA home is an exciting time for him and this franchise," Mills said in a statement. "As a versatile wing whose game continues to improve, he will fit right into the core of players that make up a roster emphasizing youth, athleticism, accountability and unselfishness."

As I said, move Melo and Lee but save the cap room, and this could make sense.

And either hope that Noah can rediscover his health or use the stretch provision on him at the most optimal time

But if they go back to trading 1s, I won't be so forgiving.

I think they are in the process of moving Melo, Lee and maybe Noah.

Points of note:

Possible sticking point is Griffin wants to bring own FO peeps, Knicks may want their own. He would be under Mills.

Melo prefers Cavs. Dolan loves him so he may buy him out. That's would be crazy dumb.

As an aside, the Nets GM is being very creative will limited assets.

There remains mutual interest between the Knicks and free agent point guard Rajon Rondo, per league sources. Both sides are in touch as the Knicks continue to search for a veteran point guard. Rondo is likely one of several guards they are considering. New York has less than $2 million in cap space and a $4.3 million exception to offer free agents at the moment. But the club may create cap space via trade; the Knicks remain interested in trading Carmelo Anthony. There isn't unanimous support in the organization for signing Rondo. But it's worth noting that young players in Sacramento and Chicago have raved about Rondo's mentorship and his ability to assist with player development. The Knicks are looking for a mentor to rookie Frank Ntilikina.

Griffin out and the reasons cannot be spun in a positive way. Mills is in charge for better or worse, given the limitations and conditions imposed on Griffin, it's impossible to understand why he thought interviewing was a reasonable thing to do.

So anyone who takes this job is a toady. And that also probably describes Millls, and that is why Dumb Dolan let's him have another shot at keeping this franchise the joke that it is.
