Rangers Land Shattenkirk

I was out when this became official, but I have had this picture ready for over a year.  We have to now bestow Ninja Credit on Gorton. In the early offseason, it seemed like Kevin was the goal, but then the news kept coming out that the Rangers weren't going to be willing to play in a 6 or 7 year market.   They played it cool and acquired Tony DeAngelo, who, though young, has a ton of talent and can run a PP.  Then something interesting happened,  according to the report, Shatty came to the Rangers with the four year term and deal they just could not and should never say no to.  It's hard to believe but they got him for 4/6.65.  The Devils were reportedly offering 7x7.  So Shatty has left millions on the table to be a Ranger. That's just incredible

So what are we getting? We're getting a guy who strong both ways and is basically Brian Leetch on the power play. In fact, he says he was a Brian Leetch fan growing up in New Rochelle, and it's believable for his game.

What this also does is finally give McDonagh a partner he doesn't have to cover for, we we could see his O explode.  Next two will be Smith and Skjei and next DeAngelo with either Staal (if they can't unload him) or one of the kids.

Having secured a first pair D, and a back-up G, the Rangers now must solve for C.  Lias Andersson could actually be the solution if they go Mika and Hayes 1-2.  But I'm sure they look to bring someone else in to take the pressure off of Lias.

This could really be a great offseason for the Rangers.  And the Knicks have reached out to Derrick Rose...
