Knicks Stuff
The Knicks are also heading right into Free Agency. They suffer form James Dolan's basketball obsession and have not been able to establish any sort of consistent culture or program while in Dolan's custody. Now, though this is kind of a dire situation from day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year, they've been worse recently than they are right now.
Earlier this week, the team parted ways with Phil Jackson, who had entered a sort of Captain Queeg-ish period of existence. But unlike some of the past Hoop Czar's, Jackson left the Knicks with all their first round picks, foundational young talent, cap space, tradeable contracts and only two really bad contracts: Melo and Noah. Melo's deal is bad because of his NMC, which he has used to hold the franchise hostage, and hold the basketball that can be played in a losing stasis. The Noah thing is just money for an old and injured guy who is otherwise probably okay to have around the kids.
Heading into free agency, the Knicks are reputedly and rationally looking for a pass first veteran point guard. To make even more room for their targets they are said to be willing to trade Courtney Lee's deal. If it brings back a first? Great deal. Any less will have to be judged on relative merit, and what they bring in with the added space.
During this process, it will be extra special if they can find a sane new President/GM and get Melo off the team. We'll see.

Renouncing Rose's rights would save money, iirc.
N'Dour's rights will probably get renounced, too, since they cut him rather than guaranteeing his money.
Just saw a tweet that the Knicks and Rockets are discussing Melo!
SI now mentions there are Melo trade talks!!!!
I don't want Shumpert or Smith.
I am hoping for a Non-big name President that rolls up his sleeves and knows his stuff, committed to a rebuild not a retool/quick fix. I hope whatever FA's we sign does not make us a middle of the pack team, we need high draft picks for a few years.
So many thoughts on lions first sentence.
Woj says Knicks haven't ruled out Rose. Mills concerns me. Why would a strong exec want him here?
Begley: Mills would be president and Griffin would be GM. Uncertain if Griffin would accept that.
Rose "a serious option"
Now Begley too.
I think these rose rumors are to drive up interest with other teams for a S&T....Knicks would prefer to do that then renounce his rights to get cap space.
I'd love them to get Hill in to groom Frank and run the PnR to further develop KP.
My problem with Hill or any vet is that it decreases the chances of sucking enough to get a top 3 draft pick, and imo, that is the most likely way to be a great team one day.
