Ranger Prospects Head to Traverse City Tomorrow
One of the flat out coolest things about the NHL year is the Traverse City Tournament. Held just as camps are getting underway and featuring a lot of the top prospects from 8 or so teams it's an exciting way to get a look at the kids.
The Ranger prospects as well as some unsigned players participating as tryouts, arrive tomorrow. It should be a pretty solid group with Brady Skjei making his first appearance along with other D's like Calle Anderson, Ryan Mantha and Ryan Graves. Buchnevich isn't participating, so the top offensive prospect could be Adam Tambellini or Ryan Gropp, who was the fast kid they traded up for in June. Another guy who should be fun to watch is Keegan Iverson, the tough PF they drafted back in `14.
Brandon Halverson, who is from Traverse City will play goal.
It's a shame that Buchnevich, Shesterkin, Kovacs, Saarela, as well as the college kids and some others won't show and it's a really incomplete picture of the farm, but perhaps one or two of the invites will shine and the Rangers will at least be able to grow the farm that way.
They still need to make up for some of those missing firsts, though Kevin Hayes has taken care of at least one of those spots.
Should be fun.
The Rangers themselves are in "informal" workouts this week before starting camp some time next week.
