Yanks Beat Archer
Wow. The Yanks actually beat a good pitcher today. Of course, they looked helpless and hapless through the first 5 innings, then McCann hit a three run bomb to tie the game in the 6 and ARod followd immediately with a bomb for the lead and the eventual win.
Nova was sort of bad, but still had a quality start and got the win. Betances had his 4th 4 out appearance in the past month, and ended up giving up a solo bomb in the 8th. Miller allowed two baserunners before locking it down in the ninth.
Our boy Bird had a double and a big walk.

This was a very good win, but the shit manager keeps putting a ceiling on their potential.
For those who watch regularly, how is Bird's approach at the plate?
It's good. He's been taking his walks. And a lot of his outs have been hard hit. Too many K's cause he doesn't know the pithers or umps, but that will get cleaned up as he continues to play.
Thanks Phil.
Is it just me, or have the Yankees fared well against "good" pitchers this season?
I came accross this on Bleacher Report for early FA predictions.

2016 Opening Day Age: 30
Predicted Landing Spot: New York Yankees
Ian Desmond has saved his season after enduring a nightmare first half.
Leading up to the All-Star break, the right-handed hitter clocked in with a .211 average and .589 OPS. Since then, Desmond has posted a .287 average and an .868 OPS.
With Desmond's free-agent stock on the rise, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tabbed the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, New York Mets and Minnesota Twins as teams who could be on the lookout for a new shortstop this offseason.
As Rosenthal pointed out, teams could also look at Desmond, who will be 30 by the time the 2016 season begins, as a second baseman. Rosenthal named the New York Yankees as one club that would fit that bill. The numbers indicate that Desmond would definitely be an upgrade in the Bronx. In 2015, Yankees second basemen are last in the majors with a .212 average.
Predicted Contract: Five years, $75 million
Yankees have liked him for some time now so it would not surprise me they sign him to play 2B.
The last thing the franchise needs is another multi-year contract. They have less than zero roster flexibility as it is. That is s major reason why they are so inconsistent. I think they won't give out any long-term contracts until after Teix and Beltrsn are off the books.
Desmond is nowhere close to worth that type of money/years.

The #Yankees have selected the contract of LHP Chris Capuano from Triple-A @swbrailriders and placed LHP Jacob Lindgren on the 60-day DL.
*sigh*
Morons Anonymous is calling them now
I mean seriously, it's one thing to have cannon fodder on a 25 man roster. When the rosters are expanded, there should always be a young pitcher in need of innings in any game situation that could arise.
It only makes sense if there are non-baseball reasons to keep him around.
And Girardi is playing Pirela over Refsnyder. They don't even do this in their minor league system.
It's only reasonable to think that is to not offend/scare Drew.
Refs is a potential threat. It's hard to believe that Pirela is.
And maybe Francesser's "source" is Girardi? He kisses his butt to no end.
Time for a Cashman inspired intervention.
Oh and by source, on mean on the "attitude" problem that no beat writer sees.

The current word is the Yankees could re-sign Stephen Drew this offseason if they don’t land Ben Zobrist. Drew might have been a candidate for a minor league deal earlier in the year, but since August he’s trotted along to the tune of an 117 wRC+ (.326 OBP/.476 SLG). He was, shall we say, not especially good for most of the season, so the turnaround might come as a bit of a surprise. To hear Drew tell it, reviewing video of his time with the Diamondbacks has helped him find form. Said Drew of his revitalized self: "It feels good." But would the Yankees go for Drew over prospect Rob Refsnyder for 2016? As Greg wrote a few days ago, the bloom seems to be off the Refsnyder rose; since the All-Star Break Refsnyder has hit just .222/.292/.363 in Triple-A. With Drew being an established (and by all accounts well-liked) presence in the clubhouse, and being an affordable option, there’s a good chance the team will go for him and shop Refsnyder in a trade.
This can't be good..
I think Girardi got mad at Refs for saying he was surprised to be getting sent down. He was surprised because Girardi had told th world he was here to stay. So I really do think it's a Girardi thing.
Btw, the O's always have a lefty named Chen who befuddles us.
I could still have caught that.
Pineda's not throwing any strikes.
Pineda is crap today.
Elbow problems can cause command issues. That may be what is happening
We can come back...
Yeah
Yanks not grinding in the second.
Headly's 2-2 - nope, they just ruled it an error.
ARod has popped out twice on two pitches...
Chip away...
Pirela gets beat on 91 up out of the zone.
Dammit.
John Ryan Murphy!!!!!!!!
I would have let Pineda start the 7th.
And I wrote that before Wilson gave up the homer. Girardi has a stupid gut.
GREG BIRD!
Nice comeback
New post.
