This Week on the Blog
Alright, this past week was a little dull on several fronts, and a little too up and down on others. Let's see if we can do a little better this week on all fronts.
Yankees: The Yankees cannot play .500 ball at home. It's that simple. And the Wild Card, with it's one game play in formula should not be an acceptable finish. So, either collapse, or start grinding. Mediocre pitchers have been making them look bad lately by pitching backwards and expanding their zones. This has been a great issue during the Girardi Era. The guys don't grind and they generally don't get into bullpens as early as they used to.What's more, the SHIFT is killing them, and many of them think they're Ted Williams and believe they can bash their way through it, instead of going the other way. That's got to stop. I won't even get into Girardi's inanity with the call-ups except to say it's been inane.
Giants: The Giants made their final cuts today, and don't play their first game till a week from tomorrow night. That said, I'm pretty sure we'll see more roster moves. And the big reason I am so sure is that they made an unusual number of "cap" cuts where competition was at least close and usually has favored the veterans. Letting go of McClain, Hynoski, and Weatherford created some exrta space. Now, if they were just doing extensions, the first seasons of those deals would also open cap space, so these moves probably weren't made for Eli or Prince. We'll see what happens, but I think a trade or an outside signing or two are in the offing.
Rangers: The Ranger prospects are meeting Chris Drury this week and getting ready for the Traverse City Tournament next week. And while that's happening the regular Rangers are drifting back to NYC to get ready to start camp. And I still think they have to make a trade for cap space.
Knicks: This week the rumor was Durand. It kind of sickens me that people only talk about being contenders if they have 1 or 2 of the top 5 players in the league. I remember when teams used to win.
Anyway, I hope you all have a better week, and I'd like to give a Special MOFD shout out to Mike K's Dad. You can do it, good sir! Take charge of your cells and tell them what you expect! And laugh as much as you can! God bless you, and kick cancer's ass!

Echo the thoughts on Mike's dad.
The rest of it is noise, no matter how often we treat it as consequential.
Phil, thanks so much for the shoutout. It means a lot. Glad to have an awesome community of NY sports fans here to interact with. You're all wonderful people, and as much as I enjoyed y'all before, the feeling is just magnified now.
I think the main issue with the non-grinding is the team seems to have gotten away from signing/developing those types of players. Girardi and his alleged issues with not playing young guys aside, that philosophy starts above him.
I just noticed this at LoHud. It's pretty typical; the stenographers will uncritically repeat whatever he says no matter how ridiculous :
“The way we swung the bats and how patient we were and our ability to get on base and we started with two outs, it’s unfortunate,” Girardi said. “But like I said, that’s part of the game. You’re going to line out sometimes, and I like the approach. I like the at-bats. We just didn’t get the results we wanted.”
A conversation I just had with my mom, the Braves fan:
Mom: "The Braves stink. I don't even watch them anymore."
Me: "They're rebuilding, trying to get high draft picks."
Mom: "No one cares. Nobody recognizes anyone on the team except for Freeman and Simmons."
Me: "Y'all want McCann back?"
Mom: "I thought he was doing good?"
Me: "He is, but there's a young catcher I'd rather see get playing time."
Mom: "Yeah, send him back."
Just saying...
Love ND's strong lines.
Stay strong Mr.K
Thanks for the kind words, YF.
Best of health and blessings Mike!!! I know myself and family having gone through some health issues this summer. Health is wealth. May your dad have a speedy and full recovery!! N
Bless your health, too, Michael.
And meanwhile, if the Yanks had left Warren in the rotation they'd probably still be in first.
Thanks Michael, and I'll say a prayer for you and yours as well.
Nova was always going to be up-and-down year one following TJS — though, if he had options (not sure whether he did or not), maybe he should have spent his first year in AAA? IMO, the bigger issue was keeping CC in the rotation.
CC was not a variable under Girardi, and Warren was only moved when Nova came back.
C'mon, bullpen!
Nova has been up and down for most of his career.
Betances better just have a tired arm.
I have to give McCann credit. I still don't like the signing and will hate it more if they trade Sanchez for anything less than a young offensive stud, and I think he is bad at blocking balls in the dirt, but he has been invaluable at YS
Prior to the last couples of days, the prevailing meme was how Girardi's faith in Drew had proved to be sound given some out of context production off of a very low base.
Now that the reality of his suckitude is again impossible to ignore, the mediots will be silent about reality.
