Severino Wins and Bird Homers

Luis Severino just won again.  Allowing 1 run over 6.1 innings.   Giradi pulled him after 91 pitches after Drew screwed up a groundball and because Giradi has a dementet gut.   Then the adventures began in the pen.

Btw, when Severino comes out, the game really slows down.  He had about 5 or 6 ball ones instead of strike ones and once he cleans those up, things could get nastier.  Also, the one run he gave up was on a first pitch hangind slider to Longoria.   Longoria loves YS and he mustn't be offered additional treats.  It take it Luis knows that now.

He didn't really have his greatest stuff, but he had plenty enough to shutdown the Rays.   I think I only say one 98.

In other news, going into the 8th, the Yanks were up 5-1 on just 3 hits.  This really was the formula in ation as McCann walked and ARod homered in the second.  McCann homered around the 4th or 5th, then McCann walked again and Bird second decked one in the 7th, which had the blessed effect of sitting down Dellin Betances who was up in the pen.

Warren pitched a beauteous 8th, then gave up a run in the 9th, so Miller came in as soon as it became a save situation.   Big win since it looks like the Jays might lose.

Watching aging veterans who spent their entire career somewhere else bores me This is why I watch baseball.

I agree that it's fun to watch young players develop. The guys currently either on the big-league squad or knocking at the door in Triple-A have me excited for the next few years.

FYI all, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer today. More tests have to be done and he'll begin chemo in a few weeks. I'll try to stay as active on here as possible, but I'm not sure how "into it" I'll be, given this is tough news to swallow. If any of you pray, please lift him up in your prayers. He's a New Jersey guy, and he and his brother were the ones who taught me to bleed Yankee blue.

I am so sorry to hear that.

I will will pray for him, Mike.

Mike K -- Hopes and prayers for your Dad. The odds are so much better against cancer today than they were a generation ago, so don't give up hope. Make sure you spend alot of time with him; it will give you comfort whatever the outcome, as I know from having lost both my parents a while back.

Stay well. S68.

Can't believe Refsnyder's not playing against the lefty.

And Ryan can't get to one Refsnyder has gotten to thrice on Webgems.

Didn't you catch the genius's comments:

Refsnyder and Pirela seem to have greater offensive potential. Ryan is the more accomplished defensive option.

“I debated long and hard about what to do today,” Girardi said. “But we decided to go with Brendan. Brendan has been here and our extra infielder, in a sense, all year even though he’s been hurt. Those other two will probably get in the mix, but I decided to go with Brendan today.”

Cashman needs to intercede. Otherwise, I assume he is fine with it.

OK, Nate. One more.

This is atrocious so far.

Eovaldi has taken a step back over the last two starts.

Yup, just when you think he has turned the corner, he turns another corner.

Girardi is just so complacent about offense and really, in essence, blind, because he has no clue about it's importance.

As I lurk around the net, I am shocked at some people I used to agree with being so high on him.

Didi looks better and better offensively. When he slumps, he reverts back to overswinging, but that is happening less and less.

So great to have Ryan up here...

With Ryan, a productive out is a massive victory. Unfreakin' real.

We really need this game.

I get rosters expanding, but I'd almost rather have Refsnyder getting at-bats every day than him rotting away on the bench in NY.

The manager is a jerk

At 1:38 PM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

And what will happen is he'll get in the game, he'll press, and the jerk will say we tried, but it's a penant race.

In meantime he'll still be dating Drew

What a terrible AB

Drew's issue is, outside of his hot streaks, he's about the blackest black hole you'll see in any lineup.

Broadcasting crew is a joke. You don't want to hit the ball to centerfield, it was a lazy fly ball

The general manager has to understand that he needs a manager who appreciates offense. Until then whatever skills he has or doesn't have will be capped by incompetence below

No such thing as a good loss, but that's a really bad one.

Some of the attacks on Harvey are just so off-the-wall. I have no dog in this fight, so I think I'm looking at it objectively

Harvey and the Mets should do what's best for the long-term for their player and their franchise.
