Yanks Take USD SS Kyle Holder at 30

Yanks just took a slick fielding collegiate SS at #30 pick in the first round.  I don't even know what to say here.  He's a position player who's not known for his bat.  I would rather still have David Robertson.   And both of these collegiat picks really need to come in below slot for this rare opportunity of two firsts to reap anything like value.  BFD he can stay at shortstop.  I don't want anymore guys who don't hit.

It is reflective of a mindset that is killing this franchise, and it is why these baseball people have to go.

It is as they willfully forgot what caused the championship run.

I read one comp and it said Brendan Ryan.

So I take it from the responses that he's an all-glove, no-hit SS?

He was a basketball and baseball guy so there is hope that the bat may come around.

I deeply despise this pick.

There was a report a few weeks back saying that there were a handful of teams that thought he was extremely underrated as a hitter but that doesn't make this pick any better. Maybe they can salvage their draft with their next pick but this one is very disappointing.

USD head coach did say that many scouts have told him that Holder is the best amateur defensive SS they've ever seen, so I guess we got that going for us. Yay?

I guess they're just trying to get as many shortstops into the system because one eventually is going to stick, right?

I would have just taken a college senior than this piece of crap at #30.

In all honesty, ever since the Culver pick, I quit trying to understand this team's draft philosophy, and stopped getting my hopes up.

Jeter was never good defensively even when he was young; he was just okay, but was an all world hitter. He going to the Hall of Fame because of it.

Jennings:

For years they shot the moon on guys like Cito Culver and Dante Bichette — young players with huge upside but not much polish — and have so far seen those picks run into trouble even in the lower levels of the minor leagues. They also took a big signability risk with Gerrit Cole a few years ago, only to have him go to UCLA rather than sign.

They never had huge upside, except in someone's imagination.

Yanks just took a LHP named Jeff Degano -- I know nothing about him -- where the hell is Donnie Everett?!!!!

Feinsand thanks that Ryan replaces Pirela. If they had like even one smart baseball person in charge this team could be a lot better.
