This Week On the Blog

Okay, it was a alright-ish week on the blog.  The Yanks started winning again, the DSL started,  the Giants didn't suffer any more major injuries, the Knicks didn't do anything stupid and I still can't talk much about the Rangers.

This week; however, should be Christmas around here.  Here's why:

Yankees:  It's MLB Draft time and the Yanks not only kept their picks, but they have 4 in the first 100, and their first pick #16 is the highest they have picked in 22 years.   So, starting Monday the Yanks are going to have a massive opportunity to add to their talent base and they've really got to come away with multiple players if they want to shorten the "Window of Regret" that is on their horizon.

In non draft matters, the Yanks really have to fix the bridge to Betances and Miller.  Shreve is a keeper and Lindgren looks like he can hold serve, Wilson has also had periods of great effectiveness. But, Carpenter was already DFA'd and Rogers should be.  They need to call up some arms, instead of trying to get into the trade market for relievers -- you just have to refer to Carpenter to understand why they should avoid it.

Giants:  The Giants will continue their OTA's, and continue looing for help on the OL.  They have an open roster spot, so we'll see how they fill it.

Rangers:  The Rangers have to get ready for their draft as well as continue to come up with an overall plan for trades and free agency.  They have mucho cap work to do, partly because they give everyone an extra year.  What's more they may have to put in place a succession plan as Glen Sather may be stepping down.  Hopefully, that would elevate Gorton but we'll have to see.

Knicks:  The Knicks will start working out prospects for their draft.  They've got Winslow coming in Monday and Mudiay will show up Tuesday.  Time to follow them a bit more closely.

So, get ready for a big week, because here comes one.

I think the Knicks should consider Winslow very seriously.

I'd be more comfortable with a big or a guard.

Which?

Prefer either of the two bigs and either of the two guards to another SF.

My guess is they won't take Mudiay. So Cauley-Stein?

Maybe I'm dreaming but I can see Melo and Wnslow as sort of very lower case versions of Jordan/Pippen.

I fear a trade.

I do, too. But I think they will pick at 4 and then use their trade exceptions to attain another pick or two and pick a big.

Drew has more XBH in 50 less AB then Cano -- that's just absurd -- still not advocating for Drew but that just shows you how bad Cano has been this year

Would anybody be opposed to have Cano traded back to us for some Prospects with that contract?

@Billy, I posted in another thread how shocked I was to find out Cano's numbers were so bad. I think he'll turn it around, but I was glad when they walked away after the Ms offered him that insane deal.

Really excited about the draft, BTW. I think last year most of the "big" money was allotted to the international guys, so I'm expecting a nice splash this coming week.

OT, but American Pharoah is the first Triple Crown winner of my lifetime (born in '87). Wow.

Not mine... who was? Secretariat?

Good job by Warren but I'd leave him in.

DiDi and McCann have been swinging great lately -- I am optimistic they can keep this up

I thought going into this year McCann would turn it around offensively. After a slow start, he seems to be doing just that. Wish he would walk just a little bit more.

Didi's game-saving play in the ninth the other night was huge. I hope his recent performance is a light going on, and not just a hot streak.

Well, Didi keeping it up would be at fairly low level. McCann had a hot streak last year and regressed to his Yankee norm. I need to see a ton more from both.

As for Drew, I don't care if he hits. That he is on the team reflects what is wrong with how they are run.

Unless, as I said, it's between him and Ryan for a backup. Then yes, keep Drew.

Lawyer is 1000% correct about Drew. I don't care if he did find a flaw in his swing. It just isn't working. Get Pirela more time - not this 2-3 times a week gig.

Impressed with the way Didi is swinging the bat. More solid contact. No power, but much less with the cheap outs. Hope he keeps it up.

Warren has sold me. I really never thought he would put together a string like this. Last 5 starts have been excellent. DFA Rogers, Capuano becomes the long man, get someone from AAA back up here.
