Yanks Win!
The Yanks mostly used their winning formule tonight, i.e., power hitting and pitching, but it ended up being a weird game. The Yanks jumped all over King Felix, highlighted by a Tex messaged Grand Slam that put them up 7-0. And Pineda was not only cruising but making things look easy, K'ing 9 through six. Then he couldn't get anyone out in the 7th, giving up 2 runs on three hard hit balls before being lifted for Wilson, who calmed things down. Then Betances had to work the 8th, and Chasen Shreve worked the 9th, but not without Girardi getting the yips and getting Miller up in the pen. No, things got a little out of control when Pineda inexplicably lost it in the 7th. Let's hope he's okay. Man did they put the hurt on Hernandez.

Great win. And of course the Yankees would hit the ace-iest ace in the league. Because baseball.
Can't say enough how great it is seeing Teix and A-Rod's resurgence. And it's nice to see Big Mike out-duel his former team and Hernandez.
Weird that he fell apart in the 7th.
This was really about Felix not having command, walking 5. But to their credit, they exploited it.
So Cashman said the decision between Warren and Capu in the rotation wasn't close. A tangible positive even though it was obvious to anyone who doesn't think a 7th inning reliever is more important than a starter.
I wonder why Pineda suddenly lost it in the 7th. Seems weird that he ran out of gas at that point - he was well under 100 pitches.
I saw somewhere that King Felix had issues with the mound. Something about the stadium being open on a humid day.
Cool fact on Mason. Hope they hold onto him because goodness knows the outfield's propensity to get hurt:
@swbrailriders: FUN FACT: Mason Williams has a 9G hit streak going 15-for-37 (.405), 6XBH, 4BB (.463 OBP) http://t.co/7wRIeR6lBU #Yankees
Almost every single OF they have has a propensity for injury issues. They are in no position to subtract one now, except Beltran, but no one will take him.
Joe G. Ryan has a roster spot when ready.
Unless it's Drew's they are batshit crazy.
Mark Peyton got promoted to AA.
Nice play by Pirela to keep focused on the base stealer as he overslid the base.
Even though Beltran is improved a little at the plate he is no longer able to play even A possible outfield
It is just amazing that horrible, overpaid veterans get the extended opportunities to fail while young players have to produce immediately.
It is like their primary goal is to maximize their ability to under perform.
On the bright side, back when they signed Teix, Gammons said that he and A-Rod would be what Manny and Ortiz once were. They ended getting two seasons of that: 2009 and 2015, at least to this point.
Carpenter in a big spot? Oh man.
Grego may be the strangest player ever.
I'm really surprised Carpenter hasn't turned it around at this point. Maybe he's just not cut out for NY?
LINJ is completely right in his assessment of young guys vs. veterans.
So, Drew basically assured us it's going to be Pirela going down when Brendan Ryan gets back, didn't he?
That was going yo happen anyway, Mike. This franchise as veteran psychosis. No win is worth prolonging Drew. They have reinvigorated Austin Jackson's career.
Does Didi need running lessons? I remember way back when, Jose Reyes had lessons in learning how to run, where to position his feet, etc. His issue was he kept on getting foot injuries.
What's Didi's excuse?
It couldn't hurt, but damn, his instincts are awful.
BUT...on the BRIGHT side, I see him going the other way more, and he is doing it with a shorter stroke. If he is going to be anything offensively, that's what he has to do most of the time, at least for now.
Jackson has always been a Yankee killer. His career numbers vs. NYY: .314/.377/.500/.877.
Where's our Joey Gallo?
Would've been nice to take him instead of Ty Hensley in 2012, with the benefit of hindsight.
In all seriousness, probably the closest thing they have is Judge, but unless this team sheds Beltran's contract somehow, Judge probably won't get meaningful playing time until 2017 at the earliest. :-\
As I have said, as a general rule, I don't like investing a lot (money, high picks, whatever) in pitchers because of the unknowable fragility of pitchers as a group.
Same with Jagielo.
They continually give out more bad contracts as they profess to wait for their existing bad contracts to expire.
So unless it's what they perceive as a pressing need, like SS, they are blind to the future.
