In the 5th, Yanks Take Another College Lefty

Last year, the Yanks took RHP Daniel Bies from Gonzaga, today they grabbed LHP Ken Waldichuk from the Zags' big rival, St. Mary's. This is another lefty version of the kind of college pitcher the Yanks have been having success with and adding velo to.  He already touches 95.

While Volpe had decided he would play professional baseball if drafted high enough, Leiter chose a different path. He is planning to honor his commitment to pitch at Vanderbilt, a fact his father, former MLB lefty Al Leiter, has made very clear in the past few weeks.

I don’t know nor do I care what kind a money Volpe’s family has, but we obviously know Leiter’s family does have money and that could be the basis of this difference.
