Yanks Meeting With Cleveland

So the GM meetings are in full swing, and the Yanks are scheduled to meet with the Indians today, to talk about Kluber and Carrasco. This is a little different from the usual GM meetings where we tend not hear about what they discussed until it happens of doesn't happen around the Winter Meetings. Oviously, a deal with Cleveland would have to be won to be worth it. So far, nothing they gave us for Andrew Miller has particularly helped.  The Yanks are still deep enough to make most trades, but within that there are players they can move, and players they shouldn't.

I would rather sign free agents than make trades.

If it was up to me I would sign: Machado, Eovaldi, Corbin.

And there are reports (NJ.com) they will give Gardner a shot to win the LF job in ST when stats for a vet are meaningless as a remaining ability meter.

That’s scary stupid.

They are so close to being great but they may have their heads up their asses.

FWIW Kay said on his radio show that He thinks Hal and Levine will push for Machado. He also thinks they aren’t as high on Andujar as many outsiders are.

I think that's why I'm expecting they'll make a significant trade.

Yanks finalizing a 1 year deal with CC.

Last year, wanted to retire as a Yankee.

Suboptimal but not as absurd as Gardner.

I’m hoping Sabathia is not one of he two Cashman was speaking of.

CC's signing won't preclude them from Corbin or a trade, but I bet it precludes them from Happ unless Happ is willing to take a similar deal. And it's difficult to imagine someone not offering Happ at least two years guaranteed.

I’m looking at it in the aggregate. $15m can get you more than those two. If they are spending really big, nbd. If not, wtf?

"In CC's case, we have multiple needs in that (starting pitching) arena. If we were ready to promote three more Severinos, then I wouldn't be looking in acquisition mode for starting pitching." - Brian Cashman

Same as it ever was.

Good move for CC on a one year deal.

He is a leader on the this team along with Gardner.

If Harper can be had in a reasonable deal to play 1B that would solve some problems.

No need for Machado with his lazy Cano-like ways and bad knees. Gamble on Donaldson on a 1 year deal

Kluber/Carrasco
Corbin
Paxton

I would be fine with Donaldson on a one-year deal, though I don’t buy the Machado-is-a-villain narrative.

At 7:50 AM, Blogger Rich said...

To be a leader you have to actually be, you know, good. Gardner is toast and CC’s margin of error is so small that it can’t be relied on. I’ve heard of fantasy baseball but this is taking it to a new crazy level.

This can’t be said enough. When you are a deep pocketed team and two 26-year-olds come on the market that can be had for just money and you don’t sign at least one of them, you are you freaking idiot.

At 10:59 AM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Or you’re just cheap. Which Hal has proven to be before.

At 11:15 AM, Blogger Rich said...

OK.

Does Hal even care that the RS are outperforming his organization in a major way?

I maybe way off base, but this reminds me of Teix years ago. Yankees weren’t in, and all reports had them nowhere near him. At the end they got him. What was the point of resetting the tax? Personally I don’t think Didi is back, and debatable about a long term deal for Hicks. I could be totally naieve, but still believe one of them will be a Yankee.

Two 26-year-olds in their prime, superstars, one of which is a plus defensively in the infield (at third), and they’re gonna pass. No words.

I’m willing to wait until the proverbial fat lady sings, but again if money is an issue I think signing Gardner and CC was nuts. It’s not like they had a championship team and wanted to keep the crew intact. The leadership they have is basically treading water

Sanchez needs to shoulder surgery cleanup.

At 7:38 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The procedure to remove debris from the AC joint of Sanchez's non-throwing shoulder will be performed by Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Cashman estimated that Sanchez will need three months for a full recovery.

"It may very well be something that affected him performance-wise," Cashman said. "I can't rule that out. Now is the time to take care of it."

Obviously, Gettleman’s OL FA signings have sucked hard but accordingly a SF podcaster they were smart not sign Richburg.

Lavarnway

Andrew Miller on an incentive-laden deal is the only bullpen arm I would sign. Otherwise, build the pen from within.

At 1:12 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Not even Robertson or Britton?

At 2:17 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If Job 1 was CC and Gardner, they are doing a bad job.

And they (Cashman for sure) may be waaay too high on Didi because he doesn’t walk, unlike Hicks, who I changed my opinion about because he learned to walk.

It’s not Axisa but this is why some Yankee fans are goofy. Cashman is a good GM, but he has been out-executed by multiple RS GMs for almost 20 years:

Brian Cashman, so the saying goes, is a ninja. The reputation is deserved: Yankee moves often materialize quickly and (from our perspective) out of nowhere. The organization as a whole rarely tips its hand with regard to its plans – an impressive feat considering the hyper-intense media environment in which it operates. That is why Cashman’s statements on Sonny Gray, which make it abundantly clear that the Yankees will trade him, have been so surprising.

Only an overcompensating piece of shit, George King, would write this:
Gary Sanchez displayed as much enthusiasm about talking to The Post on Saturday that he did going after the passed ball that allowed Tampa Bay baserunner Jake Bauers to score from second base in late July.

At 2:57 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Seriously these guys write like their freakin’ trolls and they wonder why players don’t want to talk to them.

Nice trade by the Sixers.
