This Week on the Blog
Alright, this was another kind of crappy week for our teams. Perhaps this one can be a little better. It'll start off with the Giants playing Washington, then before that's over, another Ranger game, and then more Knicks early in the week. Let's take a look.
Yankees: The Yanks better be busy making their offseason plans, because the World Series could be over soon. Anyway, I don't know how much they've been talking, or how long after the Series the action will start, but at least it's coming. And let's hope they're considering extending Judge now. They've got to know what the salary structure is going to look like for their own young stars before adding Manny or whoever. We'll see.
Giants: the Giants traded 2 defensive starters this week, and we should know pretty quickly if that mattered, and should know soon if they're going to make any more trades by the 30th. And Eli watch must be on. They are one and 6, and haven't even made Lauletta the back up QB, yet. We'll also get to see if week 2 of the new OL configuration shows any progress, and whether they are finally willing to really go to Saquon and establish the running game.
Knicks: The Knicks are 1 and 5, but have been more competitive than the Giants. And that's without Kristaps Porzingis or Kevin Knox. Fiz has them going hard. Right now there in a place where they can really keep it tight for a half or three quarters before the floor falls out. They need to learn how to finish. They might have discovered something Friday, when they started Frank Ntilikina at the Point and he was the best player or the court not named Steph or Durant. And Burke was good off the bench. This might crucial change that lasts.
Rangers: the Rangers are also almost always competitive. They probably had their best game early in the week against Florida, then played their worst against Chicago. The first goal they game up in that one was the product of two Rangers colliding. They answered it quickly, then the second one game when Brent Smith's stick broke, and then the doors were off. I think Quinn, like Fiz, is the right man for the job, so let's hope they look better (win or lose) Sunday against the Kings.
So there it is, trade deadline approaching for the Giants, trades season approaching for the Yanks, and the young Knicks and Rangers will hopefully keep plugging. Have a great one!

We keep seeing why Shurmur she be one and done, and Bettcher should be the HC. Too bad the owner sucks.
I’m enjoying watching the Knicks.
I think Cashman has plateaued, albeit at a high level.
Every week on the postgame Amani and O’Hara wonder why they abandon the run. #Shurmur
If this was Eli’s last game as a Giant, it’s fitting that his last pass was a TD. He is the greatest QB in NYG history. His only mistake (if only imo) was keeping quiet while the incompetent Jerry Reese, empowered by the even more incompetent John Mara, destroyed his career. It infuriates me and makes me question why I give a shit about this franchise.
The Sox won the WS, and I would be more annoyed, except it’s become abundantly clear that Hal’s only concern is being Luxury Tax Champions, so it’s difficult for me to be invested in baseball enough to care that my team’s biggest rival won it all. Whatever. Come back to me when the Yankees start acting like the Yankees again.
I know. Now we can really reload! Shock and awe coming!
Hal isn’t the reason they can’t develop SP. That’s a primary reason they are very good but aren’t great.
Shurmur: “Eli is our quarterback. We have to play better around him, and there are plays where he needs to be better.” -- @Patricia_Traina

One of the worst franchise is in professional sports
Martino says early reports are they won’t spend, please...
The only Martino I know was my fourth grade teacher
My bad Andy Martino SNY. Com reporter 😊
Right now it’s all posturing, so I wouldn’t put much stock into any reports coming out. If they pick up Gardner’s option that will say a lot more about their approach to the offseason.
Can they really be that stupid to pick up Gardner’s option?
If they do, it would signal that ownership is almost entirely apathetic to being great. I can count on one hand the number of times I bothered to watch the Yankees this year when they were on national television, and I suspect that number would drop if they continue their approach of taking half measures.
We will know Wednesday about Gardner's option.
KNICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hardaway said Robinson has listened to what Rasheed has been telling him.
Hardaway was great. 25 8 assists, 5 boards, and he took a charge that gave him a fat lip and the Knicks the ball. My favorite game of his.
Yes, he has picked up his defense too.
The Knicks are showing how a smart, honest rebuild can succeed in NY, no dual mandate misdirection required.
Stapleton is right on, but one person is primarily responsible and that is the owner.
@art_stapleton
Shaun O'Hara asks Marc Ross what Pat Shurmur can do to fix things with #NYGiants on bye week and moving forward on
@gmfb
.
Ross, with a smirk: "Pray."
Again, the current failure of the Giants belongs to Ross as much as it does Dave Gettleman and Shurmur. Disingenuous.
WTF?

Pat Shurmur, on the arrest this morning of QB Kyle Lauletta in New Jersey for a traffic violation:
“We were made aware of the situation this morning, and we have been in contact with Kyle.We are still in the process of gathering information. This is obviously very disappointing.”
I thought this might be at a DUI, but this suggests maybe not:
Sources claimed Lauletta pulled the same stunt Monday morning but wasn’t stopped. Police caught his license plate, however, and will issue him two summonses through the mail.
Shurmur remains an asshole:
Coach when asked if the whole team was on practice field: "Yeah, everybody was out here." Coach lied to the media. Not a good look, especially when you're 1-7. Should have been honesty and explained what happened with Lauletta.
I know the exact area this happened. The cops there are absolutely ridiculous and I've gotten into arguments with them on multiple occasions. They will specifically go out of their way to make sure you can't turn up the ramp out of spite.
Although I have mellowed with age, I know exactly what you’re talking about. I ran into those types all the time when I was young.
OK, i have some experience with this when I first started practicing, these are bullshit freakin charges. He could’ve been sternly warned that the next time he will be written up. The worst that will happen is that he will have to plead guilty to the lesser included offense, imo. Now, what he had to understand is that as a public figure, discretion is the way to go.
Kyle Lauletta charged with eluding police, a third-degree crime, obstructing administration of law and resisting arrest. Motor vehicle charges for reckless driving, disregarding an officer's directions, improper turn in marked traffic lane and failure to remain in marked lane.
RAB: The luxury tax threshold jumps to $206M next year and the early indications are Hal Steinbrenner doesn’t want to exceed the threshold. “I don’t want to speak for (Hal Steinbrenner), but my general feeling from him and for us has been not wanting to line the pockets of others to let them utilize that excess against us,” said Brian Cashman recently, referring to the fact a portion of the money paid into luxury tax is distributed to other teams.
By the way I don’t believe that he almost ran over a cop.
If the facts are as I think they are, then it may actually bode well Lauletta as a leader because it shows he won’t take shit without a fight. Not that I think it was smart, but I am not 22.
The Bulget thing is straight out of a movie.
What does almost ran over a cop even mean? You either did or didn't. This sounds like police malpheasance, which I know about though I've never been arrested or anything.
This is really about growing up, nothing more.

If, as some speculate, Lauletta won’t start this season because of this incident, it will be another massive blunder by Mara, and I guess also by Lauletta, who should have known that abusing women is ok with Mara, but not scofflaw traffic violations.
Seriously how can anyone be this dumb? How does she brush your teeth how does she tie her shoes? The kid made a mistake. Eli should start because he’s never been late? Really all I can say to these people is fuck you.
@KimJonesSports
It's hard to imagine, a day later, what Kyle Lauletta was thinking. It's impossible to imagine #NYG benching Eli anytime soon for a guy who can't get to practice on time -- for any reason. We'll let the facts play out on the charges he faces. But has Eli EVER been late for work?
The ramp up to 495 is the biggest joke. It's legit 4 intersections, going up to 1 ramp to access 495 and it's the ONLY way to get to 495 from that area.
There are typically 3 cops there and they are beyond useless. It's impossible to describe the chaos that ensues but there are times where you can get up the ramp in 5 minutes and other times it can take 30+.
They probably wouldn't let him go up the ramp cause he merged into that lane and he just made the turn anyway.
Remember when we hired "Adults" to run this team?
New post on Gardy's new deal.
Tough loss but still fun as hell.
