Yankee Roster Issues Loom
So tomorrow or Tuesday, Brandon Drury will have to be reactivated or put on the 60 Day DL (I think). What's more, in the next week or so they 'll be getting back Greg Bird and he's core. Here's the problem, Drury's best position is 3B, or DH, I guess, but he's not really playable in the OF or 2B. Miguel Andujar's best position is also 3B, and though they intended to get him work at 1B, they haven't, and though he's slumped a bit, he seems to be coming out of it. Gleyber Torres can play SS, 2B and 3B, and probably the three other corners, because he's a natural. And Neil Walker can play everything but C, SS and CF.
And then there's the mascot, Ronald Torreyes. I love him, too, but there's nothing he can do that can't be covered by bigger, stronger guys with POP. Lately, perhaps because he's playing less, he seems to be beginning his annual reversion to his annual OPS+ of 81. Hopefully, they don't have to DFA anyone and can work out a trade here, because demoting Andujar weakens the major league team. So, though it will be hard on some fans and the Suzyn's of the world, I think trading Torreyes would be the way to go.
UPDATE: Drury was reinstated and optioned to AAA, because he's still not quite 100%. Greg Bird and Billy McKinney were just promoted to AA, so roster challenges are still on the way.

After an abysmal start, likely due to not having a spring training, Neil Walker has taken himself out of the "cut him" discussion and into the "fit him in" discussion. He hasn't shown much power thus far, but they don't really need him to do that. I think you keep him on no matter what.
Drury doesn't sound like he's close to coming back up, so the Andujar situation has been put on the backburner for now. When Bird is ready, I think the bench becomes Romine, Walker and Torreyes.
Mind you, that's only a three-man bench, and I don't think that's viable long-term. Warren and Kahnle will replace Cole and Hale. Then it become who between Holder and Shreve you think should get sent down in favor of the fourth bench player. I get that Shreve is left-handed, but I think Holder is actually pitching better despite what their respective ERAs say, so I would pick him if I had to choose. (Of course, they could also just acquire a better left-handed reliever.)
Then it's a matter of who the fourth bench player is. Personally, I'm with Rich in saying that Hicks' first half last season is looking more and more like an aberration. If Clint Frazier is gonna keep hitting like he has been, call him up and let him split left field/DH with Stanton, and let Gardner and Hicks split time in center.
On a completely unrelated note, I think it's only a matter of time before Gleyber is the leadoff hitter, because he may just be their best hitter.
2B Torres
SS Gregorius
RF Judge
LF Stanton
1B Bird
C Sanchez
DH Frazier
3B Andujar
CF Gardner/Hicks
Holder may be working his way into the circle of trust.
Cole has an opportunity to do so given their pen woes, or maybe as a spot starter.
Shreve offers handedness, but he is so inconsistent, and bad more than good.
Betances is earning a big one inning role. Personally, I don’t care about his stuff in any game or pitch count, I prefer a one inning role. And given that the other big three are taxed, if it becomes a big four they are much better off.

Does he not have options?
Drury has 2 options, so I guess they'll jsut used one of them,
They just reinstated him then optioned him to AAA. Issue averted.
Bird and McKinney were both moved up to Trenton....
RAB: 2:14pm ET: The Yankees have chosen door number three. Drury has been activated off the 10-day DL and optioned to Triple-A Scranton, the team announced. I doubt anything will happen, but I’m curious to see whether Drury’s agent makes a stink about this, claiming his client is not healthy and should be on the disabled list (and thus collecting big league pay and accruing service time) rather than on an optional assignment.
Sucks for Cano. Best to him.
