Giants Stuff

This morning the Giants cut 5 players: G Damien Mama,  RB Terrel Watson, WR Caanan Severin, S Ryan Murphy and P Austin Rehkow.  This either means they already have 5 more deals that will be signed by UDFA's once they show up for their physicals or they're leaving 5 open for tryouts or a waiver claim or two.  Looking at the roster, the tryout UDFA's should really go for it because more room can be made.

I'll keep updating this thread, rather than making a bunch of other little Giants threads leading up to the camp.

Whoa

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/05/10/lions-could-have-easily-found-out-about-the-1996-patricia-indictment/

The Detroit Lions didn’t know that coach Matt Patricia had been indicted for aggravated sexual assault in 1996. So here’s the question: Should they have?

On one hand, it’s understandable to assume that Patricia wouldn’t have made it as far as he did in coaching without something like this coming out. Some have called it a skeleton in the closet; the reality is that it was an unburied bag of bones hiding in plain sight.

Deadspin.com demonstrates just how easy it would have been to find the information, if the Lions had searched for it. A simple Nexis search uncovered it. A league source with access to the service tells PFT that, indeed, the Patricia indictment “comes up right away.”

This is a tricky legal and moral area. Indictment on a felony is a big deal, and he won’t answer questions on some underlying facts that would shed light on the event at issue, but should he be required to do so to the media 20 years later?

I could argue it both ways.

If I was an NFL who hired him, I’m not sure what I would do, but he would have to explain the event in detail, and I would have a complete investigation undertaken.

Paul Perkins is no longer a member of the New York Giants football team -- at least for now. On Thursday, the Giants released their 2016 fourth-round pick and 2017 Week 1 starting running back with a "waived/injured" designation for a "non-football injury." Why is this important? Players who are released with a waived/injured designation have an excellent chance of clearing NFL waivers and reverting back to the roster they were currently on while subsequently being placed on injured reserve. Perkins missed the Giants' voluntary OTAs and minicamp (although he was in attendance) while recovering from offseason surgery after he tore his pectoral muscle this past offseason. Perkins was unable to practice, and the Giants' decision to waive him could have more to do with an extended timeline for him to return from injury than how they feel about his long-term upside

Coach was asked about Paul Perkins release. Shurmur said it was a long term injury and Giants wanted to open a roster spot. -- @GiantInsider

"You see, I just try to tell him to follow me wherever I go," Hernandez said of Barkley. "I’ll wait for him to get his food and then he’ll walk behind me."
