More on Fizdale

Was torn about actually adding a picture of Fizdale since the odds of his making a difference or lasting very long are slim at best.  I get the feeling that the Mills/Perry team is going to be big talk, but no big moves.  And by big moves, I'm not talking about bringing in LeBron, I meant hiring Jerry Stackhouse or Jay Larranaga or a strong coach like Mike Budenholzer.  At the outset of their expansive coaching hunt, the Knicks expressed the notion that the new coach would have to realize he was part of a team with Mills and Perry.  I'm wondering if Fiz is the only guy who was willing to do that.  Budenholzer has already proven more than Mills and Perry, so I could see him bridling at the notion. But here's where we are, perhaps limited by the Mills/Perry brand.

As for Fizdale, I guess the thinking is that he's a Spoelstra disciple, and as such, also a disciple of old man Riley.  I prefer the cleaner connections and traceable coaching lines of Stack to the Dean, Budenholzer to Pop, and Larranaga to his Pop and Brad Stevens.  We'll see how this works out.

I think it's important that Fizdale get a legitimate basketball guru on his staff. Whether that comes in the form of an old college coach, or an old assistant -- it must not come in the form of Mike Woodson.

When Woodson originally came back to the Knicks is was to help with Mike D'Antoni's D.  Instead, he took Mike's job, and though the Knicks playing ISO Melo ball won 53 games, they got demolished in the playoffs, because they still wouldn't play D, which was supposed to be Woodson's strong suit.  Also, Woodson loves that atavictic ISO Ball and the Knicks also paid lip service to the idea of being modern.

They say Fizdale is going to Latvia to see Kristaps. I guess that's a start.

Two unrelated points:

The Knicks have never really recovered from the foolish decision to allow Riley to leave. He wanted to become president and the suits choose to stay with Checketts who is something of a snake oil salesmen.

The Melo trade destroyed this franchise, and still negatively impacts it.

So did the Marbury trade. They were two stars that other stars just didn't want to play with.

Looks like Keith Smart will be on the staff.

If they get him big talent (HUGE if) it will work.

Two big hits in the draft mostly, with this year’s and next year’s firsts. Develop Frank, hope KP comes back 100% with more muscle. Add some finds: Burke, Dotson, Mudiay others. Then maybe in three or four years there will be something real here. And we will see if Hardaway’s shot can become more consistent.

Reading this article, there is no existing way of doing things in NY that can’t be disturbed so that won’t be a problem.
