Giants Awarded CB CJ Goodwin on Waivers
Rember when the Giants used to pick up useful Super Bowl player off of waivers, like Madison Hedgecock and Domenik Hixon? Dave Gettlemen was Director of Pro Personnel at that point. Today they may have reached back in yore, and picked up huge, fast CB CJ Goodwin from the Cardinals. Say, isn't that Coach Bettcher's old team? And doesn't he like big corners? Stay tuned, this could be another ringer.

Pat’s pick: If Barkley was gone, defensive end Bradley Chubb would have been the pick. The assumption that if the Giants were adamant about taking a quarterback it would have been Darnold is faulty. In fact, Pat Shurmur preferred Allen, believing he has the most upside. This is surprising, based on his assessment of why he likes Kyle Lauletta, the fourth-round selection. “Really, arm strength is about fourth on the list,’’ Shurmur said. “You have to be a good decision-maker, you have to have a sense of timing and you have to throw an accurate ball.’’ Allen, the gunslinger out of Wyoming, has the strongest arm and displayed the worst accuracy of the top prospects. This is further evidence Shurmur does not project greatness out of this group.
In an interview with WFAN, Landon Collins says Ereck Flowers is “upset with the Giants for signing Nate Solder.” Collins found this out through his cousin, who knows Flowers.
Collins reached out to Flowers but was unable to reach him.
As I have stated, I think this is short-sighted, but this is a decent take on the other side of the argument:

I thought you heard the market speak last week. The Giants have the best qb coach in the world as their current head coach. They had only 6 picks to make, including 2, there they had previously taken Lawrence Taylor. They did not have Lawrence Taylor belief in the top of this QB class. Davis Webb is the same age as Baker Mayfield and beat him out for the job at Texas Tech, then Davis had some injuires. So the Giants already had a guy who could beat Baker fair and square as well as throwing as hard as Josh Allen. The guy many wanted, but I believed left school to early, Sam Darnold, throws 52. The Giants were able to get the best player in the draft -- and someone who will help any QB be much better - then got the second best guard in the draft at 34, also helpful to backs and QB's. Then in the 4th round they got another QB who throws 52 and is just as likely to become a franchise QB under Shurmur as any of these other guys who are not under Shurmur will. And now the Giants have 2 of them without have used a first ona falsely elevated QB class. If they had taken a QB at 2, they either couldn't get a good back or they couldn't get a great guard. Now they have both, plus 1 QB who throws as hard as Darnold and another who throws much harder. Plust a great QB room and offense loaded with OBJ and Saquon. The Giants made the smart play. There was no one to build around at 2, so might as well build the team and have it ready for Davis or Kyle or whoever they find.
Markets have a temporal quality. So assessments can change over time.
Do you share his opinion Josh Allen? I would prefer acless boom/bust type like Darnold or even Rosen.
As I said previously, beating someone at 19 or 20 doesn’t necessarily mean they will be better at 25.
I suspect(could be wrong) that Mara had a quick fix mandate for any new GM (unlike his interminable patience with Reese).
I thiink none of those QB's was worth the #2 pick and they were fool's gold.
If Shurmur had Allen as #1 of those 4, so be it, he still exercised no effort to get him at 2.
You could also think the Giants got a still recoverting Davis Webb with massive upside.
If they had loved one of the top four QB's Mara would have okayed it. QB's are more marketable than brains.
When DG kept saying picking the wrong QB sets you back 5 years. He was talking about Dave Brown. And it was really 12 years. He was just here for the last 6.
