Yanks Crush the Twins

The Yanks welcomed the Twins back to the Bronx for the first time since last year's wild wild card game. There was great energy, but the Yanks started grinding from the get go, and just put a world class pounding on a pretty good team.  Stanton, who is waking up, was 4-4 with a jack and a walk, Andujar was 2-4 with a double and homer, Didi was 1-5, but it was a Grand Slam.  Judge had two walks and a double. Torres got his first single and scored on the Didi Salami, Gardy had a pair of walks.Tyler Austin had a double and a two run homer.

Oh, and Tanaka pitched one run ball into the 7th.  Green got the third out in the 7th, then sat.  Hale came in and finished the game.

I think this is a preview of what we will see this summer.

UPDATE: After tne game, the Yanks released Hale, and traded for AJ Cole who took over the 40 spot and may not be long for the roster.  The trade was for future considerations or money.

When it ends up not making a difference (like last year with Tanaka), I hope Boone nips that in the bud really quickly.

This is like the 3rd straight easy 6th our starting pitchers have had in a row,

Betances is a mess again, and so is the defense.

Gray...

Good thing this team hits because Gray is so inefficient.

Tyler Austin is valuable.

Does Gray have mL options? He can’t be permitted to kill the pen every five days.

I don't think so. He's been up forever.

Based on what I’m reading on Twitter, he’s just flat out pitching scared. (Someone is welcome to correct me.) That isn’t gonna cut it in New York. If they acquire a starter at some point, Gray has to be the odd man out.

I suspect he'll be going the other way in any trade for a pitcher.

Confidence can be fragile even for some accomplished people. That’s what was behind my earlier comment. They need to find a way to rebuild Gray’s.

5 straight!

Only 2 homers tonight,

Despite being shaky early the pen has mostly been good.

Phil’s right about Austin, BTW. Bird obviously needs to play when he gets back, but I don’t see how you send Austin down right now. Walker might be the odd man out.

Torreyes was in for 3B defense. I still fear they will send Andujar down for Drury.

Only way that happens is if he completely falls apart at the plate. They’ll give Drury at-bats because they think he’s another Didi/Hicks, but it’ll be to spell Andujar/Torres and possibly Gardner in the outfield if they think Drury can play a corner.

I see the bench shaping up to be Romine, Torreyes, Drury and Austin. (I’m assuming Ellsbury just stays on the DL all season.)

I think Gardy's got to go, or lose a lot of AB's. I think Stanton will play a lot more LF, and Austin will be DH, back up 1B, and maybe back up RF. But his AB's are now more important that Gardy's and Hicks has a higher OBP than Gardy, No way will they or can they send down Andujar. His XBH rate is unprecedented, and when things get warmer, so will he.
