Giants Draft Part 1

I've been blowing this off a bit for a couple of reasons.  First, it's too damn long a wait between receiving the #2 pick in the draft and making it, and second, because this is a crappy year to have the #2 pick.  The last time the Giants had the #2 pick, they took Lawrence Taylor, the greatest player in team history and in the opinion of many, in football history.  They didn't take a QB. They had injured Phil Simms and late rounder Scott Brunner.  Parcells misplayed the QB's when he eventually got the job, but the rest is history.  This year's QB's all have their problems.  First, junior entry QB's have generally had poor careers.  Both Darnold and Rosen should have stayed in school.  Darnold to prove he hadn't regressed, and Rosen to prove he could stay healthy after 2 concussion.  Josh Allen had accuracy flags, and Baker Mayfield is a shrimp - while the Giants hired a 6'8" left tackle.

Also, the second overall pick in the draft is getting big money.  And if the Giants use that pick on one of the QB's, they player will burn one, one and a half or two years on the bench, because, as the Giants learned, Eli is a borderline holy figure as Giants QB around the world.  Benching him last year cost 1 GM and a bunch of coaches their jobs. Also, last year, the Giants took Davis Webb, who had beaten out Baker Mayfield at Texas Tech, and had the best velocity at last year's combine.  Better than Mahomes.  This coming week, Shurmur, the QB Whisperer will get a load of Webb, and that could make things very simple for the Giants, if they're not in love with these QB's.

What I hope the Giants do is what they did in 1981, and use the #2 pick in the draft to take the best player in the draft and that is Saquon Barkley.  He's not only the best RB in this draft, but the best pass receiver.  He's an OBJ talent in a running back's body.   You can take that at 2 every year.

Failing that and only if the offer is overwhelming, I'd like to see them trade down to 4 with Cleveland and get both of their 2's as well as a 2019 1.  Then they can take ND's Quenton Nelson, the second best player in the draft, and use their Cleveland riches to hit RB, OL again and D in round two, or use the future one to trade back into the first to get a falling QB like Jackson, who is different enough from Davis Webb to give them legitimate options after Eli, but not at top 2 money,

So there it is.  I favor Barkley, or a trade down to 4, but it has to include a future one and both of Cleveland's 2's.  Oh, and Chubb is no LT, and didn't blow the doors off the combine, to make anyone think he could be anywhere close going from his natural 4-3 fit to a 3-4 ROLB.  More as we get closer.

Saw this;

There are rumors floating around that the Browns will trade up from 4 to 2 with the Giants for Saquon Barkley. Assuming the Browns take Darnold/Allen at 1 and Barkley at 2 and the Jets go with Baker Mayfield, getting Rosen + picks would be mind blowing.

Rosen is talented, but he's had two recent concussions and a dad who is a doctor and won't let him play long if he gets another, FTS. Way too much risk for number 2 or 4. These QB's all have something wrong with them. Not worth paying them top 2 or top 4 money not to play.

Just traded a conditional 7th in next years draft to Denver for Punter Riley Dixon.
