Giants Land James Bettcher for DC
All right, for the hot coordinators hires, the Giants are now 2 for 2. Bettcher is younger than Spags and Del Rio, but that hasn't stopped him from leading some impressive defenses. He's basically been a 3-4 guy, but everyone is so "hybrid" and "multiple" these days, he shouldn't have to blow up our front line. This a bit more salsified than taking Del Rio, who would have been fine, but the Giants are going for "the Next Great Giant DC" with this move, and it's to be applauded. He probably won't be around long if he does well, because a lot of folks view him as an HC is waiting.

Like the hire. Seems like this was a Shurmur move, which is a good sign of things going forward.
This is encouraging. I prefer hiring up and comers to older people, unless that older person is someone like Little Bill.
Del. Rio would’ve been OK, but this is the model I prefer.
Spags would’ve been a sign of clueless cronyism.

Former Broncos WR coach Tyke Tolbert is set to join Pat Shurmur's staff with #Giants as WR coach, per @MikeKlis ...
Tolbert spent last 7 seasons in Denver, including Super Bowl 50 cha
So far so good. Slightly odd that the WR coach was hired before the OC, though I think OL Coach, QB Coach and RB Coach could all be more important than the OC in season 1.

Here’s a picture of Gettleman watching offense linemen. My guess is Reese did think with his eyes closed.

He did scout Pettigout, Diehl and Snee when he was in charge of scouting.
I blame him, rightly or wrongly, for killing the public perception of Eli’s as a HoF QB.

Keep an eye on former Cardinals assistant special teams coach Anthony Blevins joining the Giants in the same role

Ultimately, I think Reese gave Ross too much leeway without oversight. Yanks had this problem before they started hiring "crosscheckers" again. Anyway, Ross whiffed on OL after OL even when they took one.
We have made the comparison between Reese and Cashman before. Years ago, I made the comment that I prefer a talent guy over a managerial guy as GM. I was wrong. Cashman admits that is not a talent guy but he has developed, over time, the managerial skills to hire people who complement him. Reese was never able to move beyond being just a talented guy.
*talent guy*
I think that was the problem. So many Ross guys didn't get second contracts and most Reese guys did when he was doing the picking.
Source tells @SportingNews that @Giants are set to add Lou Anarumo (defensive backs), Bill McGovern (linebackers) and Gary Emanuel (defensive line) to Pat Shurmur's coaching staff.
Anthony Blevins has also been added as assistant Special Teams coach.
Andrew Norwell is squarely on the New York Giantsradar as they prepare their 2018 free agency plan.
According to Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline's Senior Bowl Buzz, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman is preparing to make a run at signing Norwell in free agency.
Dave Gettleman will looks to sign Panthers interior lineman Andrew Norwell, a favorite of his in Carolina, during free agency rather than re-sign Richburg.
