Yanks vs Houston

The Yanks finished this season second to Cleveland in Run Differential.  The difference between this team now is that the issues that made the Yanks finish second: no Sanchez for a month, no Bird for three months, no Didi for three weeks to start the season, two long Hicks absences, and the Judge slump, are mostly all resolved.  Add those missed players in and the Yanks would have finished firtst, by a ways.  Anyway, if the Judge snaps back out of it, I thik the Yanks will continue to surprise eveyone but us.  Let's crush them with our full lineup.

I said the same thing elsewhere, and obviously you can add Sanchez and Bird, and even Didi only hit in the last game.

Rich, to answer your question in the other thread, Rutherford becoming an all-time great would obviously change things, but there is a low chance of that hypothetical coming to pass. The three the Yankees got from the ChiSox are helping them win now.

No doubt they are helping now, my only point is that it’s way too early to assess it.

Similarly, even though Gray has moved behind CC in the pecking order, and who would’ve thought that two months ago, that could still turn out to be the better trade.

I really thought they would put Wade on the roster. If you never use Ellsbury as the DH, which would make some sense given how he is hitting, you could use him in that PR role.

Toe isn’t fast. In fact, didn’t he pinch run in that big spot for Frazier, who is actually a pretty good base runner. That’s our Joe.

It’s not the reason they lost but the loyalty to Ellsbury, Headley, Holliday is dumb.

This was a game of luck. Decent sign going forward.

They gave Kuechel about 1 free strike to every batter. They being the umps. Very frustrating. I know our pen is better, and I thought we would steal this one. Yanks in 5.

As someone put it on Twitter, Kuechel is Cliff Lee 2.0. If you can steal a game from him, great, but it isn't likely.

Rich, the three you mentioned are why the team needs an upgrade at DH next year.

Bird needs to always bat higher in the lineup.

Mike, they can go Austin, Castro (Torres at 2B), C. Frazier, Andujar or sign Bruce or someone.

But the manager isn’t using the best possible options now.

The strike zone being called with regard to Judge is either extreme incompetence or a not insignificant scandal.

At 9:28 AM, Blogger Rich said...

Today’s pretend DH is Chase Headley. It’s a challenge playing with eight hitters

At 9:33 AM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Maybe Chase can come through. He's had some hot streaks.

Espada sucks.

At 2:40 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Frazier doesn’t.

What’s so weird about this stadium is that every oil company stock I follow has a sign here.

So is Sevy hurt or hurting?

I can't believe what the home plate umps have done to the Yanks in this series. That's 2 games in a row that were completely unfair.

At 4:16 PM, Blogger Rich said...

That and bad luck, just a mofo couple of inches and this is a very different game.

At 4:18 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Correa moves back into Didi.

Girardi was protecting Sev. I respect that. Could be more exams tomorrow.

Pettitte is teaching Montgomery the cutter. They can not let Jeter f them with Yankee greats.

At 8:18 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Where did you hear/read that about Pettitte and Montgomery?

At 11:55 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I don’t know why the Yanks don’t have Sparky Lyle teach the slider throughout the system. He taught Ron Guidry and turned him into an all star.

At 5:18 AM, Blogger Rich said...

My wife read it at NJ.com, on Oct. 15.

5. Pettitte also has become close to the young lefty in the Yankees rotation, rookie Jordan Montgomery. And ,yes, plans are in motion for Pettitte to teach Montgomery how to throw a cutter, too.

"Jordan is different (from my pitching style)," Pettitte said. "He throws a lot more straight over the top, but he's left-hander so I can relate to the lefty. So Jordan and I stay in touch with each other and we'll continue to talk.

"He wants to talk to me about the cutter and stuff like that. I know (Yankees pitching coach) Larry (Rothschild) has been working with him a little bit on it. He's a great kid and he's got great makeup. I love everything about him and I believe if he stays healthy he's got a great future."

Thanks. Hope it becomes a legitimate option for him.

Great job by CC. I would pitch Warren here.

At 7:47 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Green has been up twice.

At 8:38 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Big win. Now let's win the next three. The umps didn't have the guts to screw with the strike zone in NYC. They'd have gotten themselves killed.

Romine at C in a game that will determine the course of the rest of Sonny Gray’s life.

At 5:47 PM, Blogger Rich said...

yes

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta find a way to heat Keuchel somehow tomorrow. Like our chances to win one of game 6 or 7 then

At 8:30 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

If the ump makes Keuchel throw actual strikes, the Yanks will crush him. Like when Glavine was in the AL.

At 10:02 AM, Blogger Rich said...

I don’t like Bird batting seventh even against this lefty.

At 5:35 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!

Should we have a new thread?

Tanaka pitched like he’s auditioning for free agency.

At 5:48 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Loving it.

At 2:27 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I think it's time to bat Bird 3rd between Judge and Sanchez, as those three will be the offensive engine that drives the new dynasty.

We'll start a new thread for the next series. Was gonna write an article about Bird batting third, but we're being lucky with this one.

Dodgers are in.

At 6:49 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Shocked he left him in with what obviously was lost command.

At 6:54 PM, Blogger Rich said...

It is as if Girardi decided in advance he was going to get 5ip from Sev and wasn’t willing to change that mindset until he had to, instead of when the warning signs were flashing.

At 9:58 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

If the home plate calls the ball 4, which it was on the 3-1 to Hicks, I think we would have rallied and won the game. We'll crush them tomorrow, and I guess in the grand scheme of things it's good to have the kids play a game 7.

At 7:34 AM, Blogger Rich said...

This is why I think Axisa is not great. He admits Girardi made two critical mistakes but still has had a great postseason. What?

Anyway, I’m harping on this because I thought it was a bad mistake. Aside from the non-challenge against the Indians, I think Girardi has had a great postseason overall. I’ve liked his bullpen usage and his lineup decisions. That decision last night, letting a fading Severino face Altuve for the third time with the bases loaded in a one-run game, stands out as a bad one.

Having Kahnle throw mostly changes is also too reactive.
