Yanks Move on to the ALDS
Okay, after one of those crazy games from the last dynasty, the Yanks won, and will advance to the their first true post season in five years. The heroes were Didi, Gardy, Judge and Bird, as well as the bullpen who had to take over with 1 out in the first. Huge win. And, with all this young talent, there could be more, but we'll have to see, and not too much pressure on all these young stars.

Slightly off topic, but remember this quote that a "Yankee official" gave to Wallace Matthews about the netting? "Yankee exec to me on the phone today: 'I'm not talking about the netting. Goodbye. and don't f**king call me again.' Click."
Guess who it was?
"When contacted by telephone on Monday, Yankees President Randy Levine said, 'I’m not going to talk about the netting,' and then ended the phone call."
Green probably made the game winnable. Just an awesome job.
As for Levine, his behavior, personality, values, and performance fit the current Zeitgeist.
Hit the nail on the head on both points Rich, Green changed momentum. It was almost like a win the way Green got us out of the first inning "only" giving up 3 runs. Levine is your typical elitist.
The bullpen was amazing last night.
Some thoughts from last night:
‣I asked in the other thread if that was Girardi's best-managed game of his Yankees career. I have to think it is. Going to Robertson early in particular hopefully shows a willingness to evolve by Girardi in terms of his bullpen management philosophy.
‣Green and Robertson have established themselves as versatile guys who can excel regardless of when they're brought in, as opposed to relievers who seem to do better with defined roles (Betances, Chapman). Cashman should target those kind of relievers going forward or, preferably, identify those types in his farm system and develop them in that role.
‣Kahnle got the job done, but only one strikeout did concern me a bit. Still, he pitched to a 0.90 ERA in September with 15 Ks, so perhaps it was just a blip.
‣Good things cups were invented.
‣Mike Axisa said on Twitter last night it was "kinda obvious" where Torres would end up playing, a subtle shot at Castro. Castro has certainly had a good season, but Cashman would be wise to sell high, as it's his best season after a few sub-par years.
‣I still think anything the Yankees accomplish in the postseason is just gravy, so I'm not gonna sweat this series with the Indians.
I think the big question was whether he was going to go to a starter or stick with the pen. It worked, so kudos.
Kahnle, a little like Sevy, was too amped early. He was saved by some at-em balls, but overall pitched well enough and became more effective over time, similar to his short season in NY. He just needs to trust his stuff, as does Sevy.
Castro has not had a good season defensively, and I think that’s what Axisa is referring to because he’s mentioned it before.
Gray
CC
CLEVELAND – The Yankees have set their rotation for the ALDS, with Sonny Gray going in Game 1, followed by CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka and Luis Severino.
Joe Girardi’s most interesting decision seems to be putting Severino in Game 4 after the 23-year-old recorded just one out in Tuesday’s AL wild-card game.
“I was asked, ‘Could you bring him back Friday (in Game 2)?’” Girardi said. “I just think, with his workload and what he’s done this season, its’ probably not in his best interests, and the full rest will probably do him some good.”
Castro has trouble turning DP's. I hate that.
Two interesting comments by Cashman on Kay:
1) He tried to get major league ready starting pitching last year (2016) in his deadline deals but failed.
I think we lucked out that he got what he got, in all likelihood.
2) When praised by Kay (correctly) for the job he has done, he mentioned how the Mets looked good couple of years ago and we’re receiving praise, and then faded with injuries. In other words, he was saying that praise can be fleeting.
So tying those things together, does he realize that the reason the Mets were especially vulnerable is because they relied on young starting pitching, and what distinguishes this team is the young dynamic offense?
Thanks Gray.
If Gray isn’t hiding an injury this is concerning. He is a command pitcher whose command has sucked lately.
Garcia????
Unp sucks.
I was worried about the Kluber strike zone for game two. And now Bauer got it in game one. This should be made a bigger deal about. Umps cheating is an issue.
Turn the page on this game.
Axisa echoes my earlier post:
Sonny Gray is up to 12 walks in his last three starts and 14.1 innings. That is A Problem.

Is he hurt? Gassed? Mental issue?
pitching coach? smaller stadiums in the AL East so he's trying to be too fine?
He’s a No. 3 starter, not an ace. Certainly worth acquiring, but he’s hit a wall at a bad time.
I’m getting scared about what they do to fortify the rotation in the off-season
Some positives with the offense.
Hicks will thankfully allow the team to not have to rush Florial.
Bird.
So you get your two best relievers up but do not bring either in?
Let alone the non review.
I can’t watch. What happened that Joe should have reviewed?
The ball to the hitter before the GS HR likely hit the knob of the bat and into Sanchez glove not a HBP.
Girardi managed as poorly as I have ever seen.
Also Green was up 3 or 4 times before coming in. Apologists going to apologize.
With a stretched pen, a big lead, and a relatively effective CC, he pulled him too quickly.
With five-run lead against a legit title contender, that’s a real shame. But this is Hal’s Yankees, so his job is safe.
Yup, accountability no longer exists anywhere.
Didi is MUCH better defensively than the Jeter.
This is totally a Giradi'd game. Win or lose.
Toe needs to Goe
Girardi single handedly cost us this game and potentially the series
Girardi should pay with his job, but won’t. Levine should also pay with his job in other matters...
Sidestepping Joe
The fool said he didn’t challenge because he didn’t want to take his pitchet out of his rhythm. What a liar
Oh and the dog ate his binder
