Yanks Will Host the Wild Card Game
Jordan Mongomery pitched the Yanks to the homefield advantage in the wild card, with a massive assist by a phenomenal, grand-slam denying catch by Aaron Hicks, where he managed not to re-injure himself. He also walked there times as leadoff hitter and set the tone for the whole night. That's what we love to see from him. David Roberston has been deadly again as a Yankee, which is the only thing he was meant to be. Castro, meanwhile, who will always be streaky because he never learned the strikezone, might be heating up again, and we'll take it. Clint Frazier, who, at 22, is still too much of a guess hitter probably won't make the post season roster, but should take this time to commit to learning the strikezone. He doesn't need to be 27 and K'ing on pitches in the opposite batter's box. Sanchez needs to tighten that up, too, but he will because he wants to be great. Big win.

Sevy’s ERA is below 3.00
That's good. They blew saves in 6 games he otherwise would have won. He's elite.
Judge is even in more elite company.
So who’s the primary DH in October?
Holliday.
George King suggest otherwise, but then again it’s George King.

Hicks came back and immediately made an impact. Adam Warren will be activated tomorrow, per Girardi.
I would start Hicks
The key for Gray is to not give up homeruns with anyone on base because it seems like he’s going to give up homeruns
VERY disappointing outing.
Eh, meaningless game. Still like him in a five- or seven-game series.
It’s not like he wasn’t trying.
I think people are largely overreacting to tonight's game, but I'll make the same point here as I did on Twitter: The Yankees' run differential is at +194, yet they won't win the division. Something is wrong with that equation.
Love what Hicks is doing. I could easily see him being MVP of one of the series if we go on a little run here.
Sanchez takes too much shit desperate being an awesome two-way player.
The issue with Gray to me is the HR propensity. He lacked content last night, but that is unusual.
I like this idea via fangraphs:
The first wild card team only has to win one game to advance to the next round while the second wild card has to win two to advance to the next round.
control
I like that idea, too.
So, I had not been paying close enough attention to the standings and didn't realize the Yankees were only three games out last night. Thus, I take back what I said about it being a "meaningless game."
Ok. :)
Girardi said to look at Severino's catcher ERA. So let's:
Romine 9 G, 20 ER, 54.2 IP, 3.29 ERA
Sanchez 22 G, 44 ER, 138.2 IP, 2.86 ERA -- @BryanHoch

This version of Tanaka is useful.
But is it worth more money and/or more years?
Betances could be a prime off-season trade candidate, but it won’t be at max value barring a postseason resurgence.
I think he’s gone no matter what. They’re looking to cut costs before the big FA class that’s just over a year away.
New Yankee post.
