This Week on the Blog

Alright, the Yanks are starting to play a bit better, the Giants disgraced themselves, the Rangers have started camp, and the Knicks must be getting close to starting their camp.  Let's take a look.

Yankees: Scranton lost last night, so now all of the Yankee minor leaguers are done.  The Yanks have re-called Holder and Miguel Andujar. Miguel's doesn't walk, but must have a hip BABIP, and has been raking since he went back down last time.  He has the kind of bat that can elevate the offense.  Let's hope he gets to play some. All of Judge, Sanchez and Bird are showing signs of life and Sevy has become an ace.  If the Yanks can hit for Gray, keep hitting for Tanaka and get good CC, they will be a very tough out, but it's a bit of a tall order.

Giants: The Giants don't play game 2 till MNF.  To make matters worse, they are honoring the SB 42 winners at halftime, and I can't remember them ever winning a game where they've honored someone. Looks like Odell might play, and that could help, but they still need to find ways to be productive even with the bad line.  Fassel could do it.

Rangers: The Rangers have started camp - almost undercover.  And they play their first preseason game on Monday.  The big questions are around who the C's will be, will Lias Andersson make the team?  Will any of the other kids?  And who will be the defensive pairings.  We'll see if anyone else, like Sean Day pops up.

Knicks: the Knicks, almost inexplicably, signed the remains of  Jarret Jack.  They now have all together too many ones and twos and still haven't traded Melo or Courtney Lee. Some of the pundits were saying this could drat on into camp and now it looks like it's going to.

So, there it is.  Yanks and Giants on the front burner and needing wins, and the Rangers starting back.  Knicks still hard to read.

Be well!

If over-managing was a disease Girardi' would be traveling the Earth for a cure.

Tough loss, but some moxie was shown by the guys who weren't subbed out. Gray is an enigma, but you can see the talent that can make him a 1/2 if the consistency ever returns.

Also, I have to think by next year, Judge, Sanchez and Bird will deliver all the time in game winning situations,

So the Cowboys' loss means the Giants are....

Schmidt, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery last April, began a throwing program in late August and expects to make his minor-league debut next June, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
The Yankees selected Schmidt with the 16th overall pick in the 2017 first-year player draft knowing that the 21-year-old's professional career would be delayed due to the procedure, but it doesn't sound like the surgery has put a damper on the right-hander's long-term outlook in the eyes of the organization. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Schmidt enjoyed a productive college career at South Carolina and could rise through the system quickly once he's able to command his repertoire and regain his pre-surgery velocity upon returning to the rubber. Prior to going under the knife, Schmidt was lauded for his low-to-mid-90s fastball, slider and curveball, all of which have the potential to become plus offerings over time.

If it turns out that they suck their way in to a top 5 pick, they have to take a qb.

Nice escape job by Chapman.

Chapman has some life back to his fastball, first time I've seen it all year even though his velocity was fine.

Garcia last 3 starts: 15 1/3, 1.17era 18k 4bb...... I don't really like him but can't be mad about that

Chapman was terrific.

The Giants are pathetic at most levels.

And I wish Eli called out the owner, GM, and coach that have ruined his career.

Can't get a play off on 4th and goal, 13 men on the field on D on 3rd and long.

The special teams make this a trifecta. Blow it up.

Another rant to sit quietly: Reese needs to pay with his job for the beatings he has forced Eli to take.

McAdoo blaming Eli makes him a deer caught in the headlights of a fleet of speeding tractor trailers. As the retired OL said on the post game, Eli doesn't (and can't) trust his OL and as a result can't go through his progressions and rushes everything.

I don't see how Reese survives... Schedule only gets harder from here...

Remember who the owner is..
The coach isn't impressive either.

Sherman

Because Gardner has just $13 million left (including the buyout on his 2019 option), he would be far easier to move. But that he just has one guaranteed year left and leadership skills would make the Yankees want to keep him. Ellsbury is owed three years at $68.5 million. The Yanks would be unable to move all of that unless they took on a contract or ate enough of Ellsbury’s deal.

But this more motivated version of Ellsbury is a reminder that he still possesses dynamic skills. Would the Mariners, for example, respond to their poor center-field numbers by taking on, say, half of what remains on Ellsbury, and would the native Oregonian waive his no-trade clause to be assured of being a regular again?

This at least gives the Yanks offseason options — perhaps even keeping Gardner and Ellsbury and using Hicks to chase a more attractive pitcher. For now, though, the duo are doing what the Yankees once had envisioned — helping to energize a playoff-bound lineup.

It's almond as if McAdoo is trying to sabotage Eli.

Apparently the fan struck is responsive.

Can't watch the game — did Severino get pulled simply because he didn't have it today?

Kind of wish Betances could have gotten some work today. He clearly needs it.

Congrats to Didi with a fine season.

Great deal giving up Greene for him by Cashman.

It was definitely very good trade, but his complete lack of plate discipline may cause him to age very poorly.

I don’t want to hear rhetorical shit from Mannfred saying that they will redouble their efforts to protect fans. Put up the freaking netting ASAP.

It’s impressive he’s doing so, even though it’s not his fault at all. What are Hal and Levine doing?
