History is Made Some Nights

Tonight Gary Sanchez hit his 31st homerun, setting a new Yankee record for single season homers by a Yankee Catcher. That's a big deal, considering the list of great Yankee catchers includes, Dickey, Berra, Howard, Munson and Posada (with a few homering Nokes and Stanley seasons wrapped in, hell Cliff Johnson had crazy power) So it was a very big deal, and it's his first whole season, minus a month for injury and 3 days for punching.  If he gains more walks, he could be the greatest C ever, or at least in the conversation.

Meanwhile Judge with his two bombs, joined more lists of guys that only include Ruth, Gehrigh, Mantle and DiMaggio - in other words the non-catching greats.

And Tanaka was much better. Oh and though Trenton was eliminated, Florial got his first AA hit.

"There's no question that Gary wants to get better, there's no question he's going to get better and there's no question he's going to be one of the frontline catchers in the future," Pena said. "You watch."

Lets hope Pena is right. He can be the best overall catcher in the game.

My guess is Clint Frazier will be as good as those two.

This is sort of amusing:

I don't think Clint will be as good as Sanchez and Judge. I think Bird will get back to being on their level if he's ever healthy enough. The next super destroyer 40 homer type we have is Dermis Garcia. Although someone else could always pop up, since power develops last, and YS helos those who can pull it or poke it to RF.

I like the way the ball jumps off his bat. I'm still high and Bird as long as he can stay on the field.

To that end, I would love to see Girardi replaced by one of their minor-league managers or coaches because I think he would be more invested in their prospects' success.

Rich, I'd like to bring back Butterfield to manage. Though there are some guys in the current system that would work, too.

Oh, yeah I forgot that. He would be fine.
