Save The Farm

Ugh, the Oakland A's who have a prematurely diminished Sonny Gray and a suspiciously breakout 30 year old 1B on the way to UFA to offer, are apparentlu scouting Rutherford and Florial down in Charleston.  Trading the low A and lower guys would be spectacularly short sighted.  The last big championship dynasty petered out when Paulie and Brosius and others retired and broke down, and no second wave of Jeters, Mo's, Andy's and Jorge's where ready.  Way the Yanks are set up now, they should be able to add more from the far next year and the year after and probably the next  two years after that.  If they start trading Rutherford's or Florials for anything other than foundational pieces, they'll be messing up their second wave.  Thus the coming dynasty will not be as long as it should be.

They aren't good enough for anyway. Cashman has been at this job long enough and withstood a enough down periods that he created to have guts to push back hard against this.

Yep, I agree. Deciding to drop the vets and commit to the young guys last year was likely a much harder fight!. They have never indicated anything other than being committed to the long haul!

Unload Gardner especially with Hicks coming back by end of month. Frazier needs to play everyday.

Yeah they should take whatever they can get for him. As I've been saying for a while I would've done the same thing with Pineda.

If they are even thinking about trading Rutherford, they are so shortsighted that they don't realize that over the long run eating Ellsberry's contract would be cheaper than trading Rutherford.

It's not just Rutherford. Florial is might be a superstar.

Right and it goes against what Cashman said about not trading future championship pieces. And if this about Levine then why can't someone in the organization demonstrate to Hal what a low character moron he is, and it is now beyond obvious that he doesn't make them money because revenue has been trending down for years.

They really overestimate how good they are:

We better not trade Rutherford or Florial. Cashman said no top end prospects and those are top end. Not interested in trading with or helping the Mets with prospects.

Heyman

yanks are very close to a deal for frazier, robertson and kahnle, sources say. all 3, it appears.

Ellsbury and Castro going to the White Sox?

At 5:56 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Sarcasm

At 5:57 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

This will hurt prospect wise.

At 6:07 PM, Blogger Billy Martin said...

I'm hoping it's Mateo as the headliner...Robertson and Kahnle would be here for next year too, which I guess makes sense. As Phil has mentioned multiple times, we will have a roster crunch with some of these prospects at year end so might as well consolidate some

At 6:11 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

I bet Mateo, Andujar and Rutherford. Some combo is included.

At 6:16 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I'm starting to wonder if this is a ploy to drive up the price for the Red Sox.

At 6:25 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Andujar still on the field in Scranton, Mateo still on the field in Trenton, per reports on Twitter...

Horrid if true

If you can't hit Colon, Todd Frazier is meaningless.

At 7:01 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

if 3 40 man roster guys are coming we have to give up 3 from our 40 or cut someone.

At 7:04 PM, Blogger Rich said...

I prefer the Yankees as sellers. Part of the reason they are struggling is that Didi and Castro don't walk, so if they don't hit .330 their value is limited. That's who I would trade.

At 7:05 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

I prefer us as sellers, too.

At 7:10 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Per Bob Nightengale, Rutherford is going as part of the deal. So I guess it isn't a ploy?

At 7:12 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Yet not in a package for a young impact player. Stupid is back.

At 7:14 PM, Blogger Rich said...

This would show panic. They thought they were good and then their manager's incompetence and injuries happened.

UPDATE: Source tells News two teams are in discussions but deal not imminent

At 7:16 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

Tells me one of two things (or perhaps both):
-The team is going to offer Bryce Harper the moon, making Rutherford expendable
-Keith Law mentioned in a chat Rutherford wasn't hitting the ball hard at all. I wonder if the Yankees see something they don't like?

At 7:19 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Maybe but this is not what Rutherford should bring back.

Harper is too speculative to matter.

At 7:19 PM, Blogger Kalel9 said...

Ugh, it's apparently Rutherford and Clarkin and others.

At 7:20 PM, Blogger Billy Martin said...

The prize is clearly Kahnle....maybe Yanks plan on moving Betances this offseason

At 7:20 PM, Blogger Billy Martin said...

Either way, not a huge fan

At 7:21 PM, Blogger Rich said...

If you are trading Rutherford you do it in a package for Sale. Not another reliever to hide Girardi's incompetence and fungible shit.

At 7:22 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

So far Rutherford and Clarkin are in the deal supposedly

At 7:24 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Ha ha. Our governor got booed after catching a foul ball at Citi. I need the diversion.

At 7:26 PM, Blogger Mike in Mississippi said...

I forgot, it also indicates they like Florial better and expect him to move faster.

I agree. He should have gone for Sale or a big bat if they were gonna move him. Oh well.

At 7:28 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Firing Girardi would benefit this team more than this trade. This shows they can't quit him.

At 7:33 PM, Anonymous yankyfan said...

Clippard part of it.

At 7:33 PM, Blogger Rich said...

Silver lining alert

“It’s definitely happening,” a source told the Daily News.

Top Yankee outfield prospect Blake Rutherford appears likely to be in the deal along with struggling reliever Tyler Clippard.

At 7:34 PM, Blogger Rich said...

The only holdup appears to be how much money the Yankees are willing to eat on the Robertson contract and/or whether the White Sox would take back a contract in return like Tyler Clippard.

A source told the News the Yankees are motivated at least partly by concern for closer Aroldis Chapman, specifically his lack of a swing-and-miss fastball.

(Bad contract begets bad trade)

Get cheap. Hal. You can never have enough yachts.
