Judgement Day

Quite an interesting game today as the Yanks once again obliterated the O's.  Aaron Judge was 4-4 with two HR's and a walk.  The first homer went over the leftfield bleachers.  They're saying it was 495 feet, but it looked longer.  The second one was just a pop to RF.  Earlier Sanchez had homered, and so had Castro.

I think the pitching was mishandled.  They started Green, then went with Shreve, Warren, Holder and finally German.  German may be the new El Bruje.  He got two DP balls when he needed them, just like Ramiro used to.  Both Domingo and Green were touching 98 with their fastballs.  My guess is they'll send down German, and bring up Webb. Then  if they have to DL Tanaka, German can comeback right away and be the new long guy.

All of this does mean that they are going to have to make some trades to make room for returning and ascendant players.

And tomorrow the draft starts!

UPDATE: German down, Ben Heller up.

Fun knowing the draft starts tomorrow now that I actually trust them to make good picks.

Imagine how much better this team would be if Tanaka was right. He has to be hurt.

I am imagining the addition of Bird, Torres, Adams, Frazier, etc.

Some of those additions will come later this year, others next year.

Saw this on NYYFans, and it's a cool take: The best player in the American League won a starting spot on the last day of spring training. The loser of that competition entered today as the fifth-best player in the AL according to wRC+.

Hicks is having a Bernie season, with a much better arm.

I'm still not certain which of Judge and Sanchez will have the better offensive career, although the wear and tear of catching could be a large impediment.

Don't forget Bird, who was a better pure hitter than both of them. And he has a stadium swing.

Cant wait for Bird to come back but don't want him rushed back. We need his LH power to balance out this lineup.

They should just bring him back. He shouldn't have to earn his way back. He's taking all his walks in this smalll sample and he's best defensive option at first.
