Five Tools
Holy crap, was I ever wrong about Aaron Hicks. At the same time, was Cashman ever right. Hicks is showing himself to be that rare 5 tool switch hitting CF. Bernie didn't have his throwing arm, but he's sort of having one of those Bernie seasons where he just keeps getting better. Tonght he had two bombs, and a great catch, and he cannot sit when Ellsbury gets back. He may even force a Gardy trade. We'll see.
Last time Jordan Montgomery faced the O's they roughed him up a bit. This time, he roughed them up: going 7 innings with 8K's and just two runs. He's now 4-4, even though the pen has blown some games for him. And remember, he's still only 23 and his velo was bumpingin 94 and 95 today.
Huge win.

Rich, in response to your last post in the previous thread: After a first-half surge in 2016 that was fueled by an unsustainably high BABIP, JBJ is actually suffering from a low BABIP (like .245) this season, so it's possible that he's actually better than he's shown this season, if not quite the otherworldly player he was pre-ASB 2016.
Hicks, by comparison, has a .342 BABIP, which is likely unsustainable, but much of his offense seems to be fueled by his plate discipline, which as best I can tell is a repeatable skill. So while Hicks might not be *this* good, there's reason to believe he may have turned the corner into being a good player.
Mike, some good points, but I think we need a considerably longer sample size.
I agree. Luckily, there are options galore in the event he crashes hard, and if not, he's under team control for two more years.
Hicks should get an all-star game spit. He has earned earned it.
We will see what happens when Ellsbury comes back as Girardi said Hicks will get AB's. Ideally would love for Gardner to be traded for a SP but don't know if that will happen.
A lot of times being named an AS involves a time lag of about a season after first being deserving.
