Yanks Score 15 and Win

Yanks went back to hitting homers today down in Atlanta and got shots from Didi, McCann and eventually Chris Young, who was a late game replacement for Ellsbury.   Tanaka was apparently so surprised that the Yanks scored 5 runs in the first, looked horrible for his first half and inning before settling down and K'ing the side in the second.

Other than the much needed win, the key to this one is the possibility that the Yanks will be able to trade McCann back to the Braves at some point.  He's from there and they still love him.  Plus, the young C they let him go for just hasn't developed the way they'd hoped.   He'd probably be a draw there.

I think it might be tough to get this idea through Girardi's dull brain, but Murphy and Sanchez could split the job till one emerges next year.  Here's hoping.

Big Win.

Btw, Jordan Montgomery pitched 6 perfect innings tonight in Tampa down in High A, and last night Chaz Hebert pitched a shutouts for Scranton.  These are both drafted Lefty starters who just keep getting better.

Trade Girardi and McCann in a package.

Glad to see the walks by Bird. If Teixeira is hurt worse than initially thought, they're going to need his bat. I also wish they'd just DL Ellsbury and call up Slade Heathcott.

They probably should check Tex for compartment syndrome in his leg.

"Cap wants to keep going, and to his benefit, he's been back getting more service time and being back in the big leagues," general manager Brian Cashman said. "If he'd gotten released, he might be sitting on someone else's Triple-A roster. In terms of giving us a long man, he's our best option."

$5 million for an alleged Girardi comfort player. They seriously can't find some dude in Triple-A to be a long man for a fraction of what it cost the team to re-sign him following the 2014 season in the first place? And who does Cashman think he's fooling with these "best option" quotes?

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “It just shows you everyone is capable of producing in this lineup.”

Capability means nothing. It should be about consistency.

Cashman has to be a major reason why Capuano is like gum on their shoes.

The one player who made big money who they completely cut ties with in season was Soriano. Cashman didn't have to justify that misspent money because he was against the trade.

Capuano, Drew, Ryan and a bunch of other terrible veterans stay, perhaps in part because he convinced. ownership that they were worth the money they spent.

I am not saying Cashman never makes good decisions, he obviously does, but there are some fundamental, and inexplicable, flaws in the way he views "talent" and allocates resources.

Let's also not forget that he handpicked Girardi.

Cash had wanted Trey Hillman to be manager.

I don't see Sanchez as anything more then a BUC for this team. Sanchez has improved his receiving skills but is not up to Cashmans and Joes standards

Then they need to stop demanding such and go with the potential plus bat. Over-valuing defense at the expense of offense is a backwards philosophy. If he's not a total butcher back there (as Montero allegedly was), play him.

Who did he hire?

Mike at the catching position I disagree.

Sanchez is more talented defensively than Posada was, and Tuck, and Pena at the major league level can continue his progress, which has impressed everyone.

Lawyer,

I can't remember what happened with Trey Hillman back then, but I think Cash was only allowed to choose betwen Mattingly and Girardi. I get the feeling the team didn't think they could market Hillman.

YF, the Yankees won four World Series with Posada as the primary catcher. Whatever his defensive deficiencies were, he more than made up for it with his bat. And who's to say Sanchez wouldn't grow into his own defensively anyway. I fully expect him to be traded because your view seems to be the same as this front office's, but I think it's a big mistake.

Phil, I don't know much about Hill, but whoever manages the Yankees going forward needs to be down with giving youth a chance even if they aren't as polished defensively as you'd like.

Sorry guys ,but I have been watching Sanchez play live now for years and I will disagree with the both of you and say Sanchez may have better tools then JP but in no way shape or form is he a better receiver. Time will tell.I don't ever see Sanchez as the everyday catcher for the Yankees.
