This Week on the Blog
This past week was a bit of a mixed bag of things we don't like, like Yankee losses and Giant injuries. Let's hope this week is a bit better.
Yanks: The Yanks will finally get a day off on Thursday, having completed their stretch of 16 games in a row. Tex will probably be back at some point, but it's doubful Bird is going anywhere, so it will be interest to see how they get him his AB's. Today, they're sending CC out to try to get a split with the Indians... the Indians. Ugh.
Down on the farm, Aaron Judge is heating up. Judge had been scuffling after they gave him that week off a few weeks ago, but last night he went three for three with a homer and a double - which would have been a homer in YS - and a stolen base. He's been a little like Gardy in the respect that it takes him a bit to adjust to a new level. If he's made his adjustment, he could start pounding on the door. The thing; however, is that the Yanks don't need to put him on the 40 yet this year, and so may choose not to, since they have so many other prospects who will need it.
Giants: the Giants looked bad again last night, but they still won, and I don't think they were particularly trying to. The OL looked better throughout the game, which was a relief. When Eli was in they were just working on their deep game - which they couldn't hook up - and Eli's dumpoffs, some of which looked good. Andre Williams looks bigger and faster, and Shane Vereen looked explosive in and out of his cuts. Nice.
On the downside, they had more injuries to Safeties, and Beason got dinged - must be football season. Devon Unga is a guy who's starting to pop up at Mike. The young DL's also did some good things.
Rangers: The Rangers still probably need to make a trade, but that might wait till camp. It's a shame that they whiffed on all three of the big collegiate FA's, the goalie and and both D's, this offseason.
Knicks: The Knicks will continue to be the subject of rumors, because they are the Knicks. Last week the rumor was Jamal Crawford, we'll see what this week brings.
So that's where we are. The Yanks must keep winning and the Giants must continue getting ready. The Rangers and the Knicks are still chilling. I hope it's a great week for all of you.

Moore, Bromley, and Owa can be good. Get Kuhn out of here (play Jenkins less) and live with the learning curve for future upside.
Obviously, the offense has to be great for the team to be good. Parker has to go.
Pettitte comes across as a very regular, personable guy. It's really admirable.
CC cannot pitch on regular rest.
I was just going to type that, and nan, the balls and strikes calls this series are awful.
It looked like a leg to me.
Thy're saying it's his right knee.
Getting 2 hit through 6...
If this post-ASB stretch has proven anything, it's that offense, not pitching, was and is this team's biggest need.
Yup. The reason it "comes and goes" says more about the quality of their offense than offense in general.
It's the cost of Drew and Didi. Fricking Didi takes a homer swing and most first pitches, misses, then has to try to do something with just two strikes to work with.
Buz, I believe Russo signed with the Red Wings last week?
Based on what I am reading, what is causing Coughlin to sound so completely clueless on Kuhn?
And waiting for Beason is like waiting for Godot.
Lets stipulate that CC is a warrior but it is time to acknowledge that he is done as a dependable starter. If he wants to pitch it should as a reliever, less wear and tear and less risk of hurting the team.
You're right, he did. Crappy free agency luck for the Yanks on the college market this year.
I suspect CC is done. And yes, he has been a favorite and a warrior.
2 years/50MM left on CC's deal.
Maybe they can negotiate a buyout as nobody is walking away from that kind of money.
I believe he can medically retire and still get all of his money if his knee won't physically let him play.
Would the Yankees recoup the money via insurance under that scenario?
I also wonder if he'll try to get whatever injections Randy Johnson was getting later in his career.
I believe the Yanks would get the money back in insurance if he had a medical retirement.
Or, if he insists on pitching, he could be the highest paid LOOGY ever, including the future.
LoHud:
Even when he was struggling this season, he was still awfully good against lefties (they’ve hit .183/.215/.287 against him this season), so perhaps he could be effective in a relief role picking his battles (at least early on) so that he faces primarily left-handed hitters.
The other thing is that insurance criteria for a medical payout is often a very high bar to overcome.
How can anyone not question the way this franchise is run at times?
Sabathia Possibly Done For Season; Yankees Re-Sign Capuano
By Steve Adams [August 24, 2015 at 3:26pm CDT]
The Yankees will place left-hander CC Sabathia on the disabled list due to a right knee injury, and manager Joe Girardi told reporters, including MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch (Twitter link) that “it’s a possibility” that Sabathia will not pitch again in 2015. As a result of the injury, the Yankees have re-signed Chris Capuano, who had briefly elected free agency, according to a team announcement.
Impressive first inning.
Not offensively
Just noticed that although Refs isn't having a great August, he is hitting much better v. RHP overall. Since most pitchers are RH, that tips the scales in favor of bringing him up.
Drew makes a good defensive play, and Sterling says that's the reason he never worries about Drew's batting average. One, he brings it up all the time, and two, on a team that has trouble scoring runs for long stretches, it's pretty obvious that if stupid was a communicable disease Sterling would be a dangerous carrier.
Nice recovery
It's getting to the point where Headley can't be on the field
Stupid second-guess by Singleton
The Eovaldi trade has a chance to be Cashman's best trade, by far.
Unlike almost every other trade that has worked well, he didn't take back salary.
Time to win this...
They really needed it
Once again, the focal point going forward needs to be offense, offense, offense. To Cashman's credit, he's stockpiled good arms, which is a valuable commodity. But the undervaluing of hitting, especially in the favor of defense, needs to stop, and it needs to stop now.
If the playoffs start tomorrow
