Bryan Mitchell Tonight
CC's getting pushed back a day and Bryan Mitchell will start tonight for the Yanks. This could either really help, or it could start an somewhat ugly chain reaction. First, Mitchell has the chance to be an excellent starter. He has a fastball, curve and change, and the fastball tops out at 100. They probably should have taught him a split along the way, but his curve does get swings and misses. If he can pitch the way he did in long relief last week -- that will be awesome. If he pitches like he did in his last start, where he looked like a more typical rookie pitcher, that could force another round of Capuano, and could even cause them to rush Pineda.
So let's hope he finally has his feet under him, after that great showing last week, and he's ready to make his case.

Some have compared him to AJ Burnett as far as potential. Minus the head-case issues, I'd be down with that.
don't expect the Yanks to score many runs tonight.
Pineda could be another DL stint waiting to happen; there have been too many arm issues in his ML and mL carer. They should tread very carefully with him.
As for run scoring, as I mentioned yesterday, it is tough for them to sustain consistent offensive production when A-Rod and Teix aren't the close to .900 OPS hitters they have (unbelievably) been.
They have given so much space to both the other hitters and the pitchers, that if they don't rediscover what they have been, some other parts of the team need to step up.
Beltran did it this weekend, but the defensive cost is pretty large.
Tanaka being Tanaka, and Severino being what he has been, would also be way to have an offset for their production.
Which begs the question, with the injury risks, should they sign Price in the offseason? Over 30 scares me, but no draft pick makes it tempting...
They don't have big money coming off of the payroll.
But if they find $150m-$200m?:
Price
Tanaka
Severino
Eovaldi
Pineda?
CC?
Nova?
Mitchell?
Warren?
As I alluded to earlier, if they make the playoffs, what is their rotation?
I think they are at the point of being self sustaining on the pitching front, if they choose to be and stop turning good starters into relievers.
Tex and AROD have been catalyst no doubt but the whole lineup at times has gotten hot and carried the Yankees, that's baseball though. Their SP's have been great, though look at we did last year with 4/5 of the rotation out for the year. The bullpen and offense can bail us out.
You can't replace two .900 OPS hitters though, and that is what they were. I don't see how the lineup alone can compensate if they don't get something close to that.
If there any truth to the Reyes rumors, that is what that is about: lineup compensation.
Mofo
Terrible send
Ells hitting is GREAT but damn he was at 3B when the fielder got the ball
McCann stepping up
Mitchell still being evaluated
Interesting piece on Refsnyder....

Might Rob Refsnyder be kept in the minors because of makeup/attitudinal issues? After all, it’s not necessarily true that Stephen Drew is the team’s "best option" (Cashman’s words). Refsnyder, who played four games for the major league side in July, is better offensively than Drew. He would be a downgrade defensively, but his bat would almost certainly be more valuable than Drew’s glove, especially down the stretch. So why isn’t he in the Yankees’ clubhouse? It’s the clubhouse itself that’s the issue, apparently – senior members of the team didn’t appreciate Refsnyder’s attitude and approach to the game. According to Mike Francesa (and others who have since corroborated the story), Refsnyder acted as if he were entitled to the position. Francesa also cited a source within the organization who said coaches found Refsnyder "uncoachable." If true, it’s certain this approach – what amounts to essentially de-seating the well-liked Drew, a veteran and by all accounts a good clubhouse guy – would not have gone down well with other veterans on the team. And, more generally speaking, nor does this mesh with the Yankees’ general ethos of comradeship and teamwork. Refsnyder’s comment upon being demoted – "I wasn't expecting this" – did strike me as being a little unusual at the time; it’s not often you hear players speaking out and disagreeing with an administrative decision (especially players on this team).
Not buying it
People said that about Cano years ago.
Some people talk out of their asses.
Checked with one of my people, It's not true about Rob Refsnyder.
Did your guy have some kind of explanation Phil? The love affair by the team with Drew is bizarre.
So good news, Mitchell only has a broken nose.
My nose has been broken so many times, it's ridiculous.
Not a big deal.
This can be a mojo game.
Come on, BelTRAN.
Extras.
I think Girardi is behind the Refs/Drew stuff. And I'll explain it after the game.
