Pineda and Eovaldi Shine

Wow, did Pineda look like an ACE today.   He had presence, command and stuff and breezed through 2 innings of his first Spring start.  Eovaldi looked really good, too, and seeing his fastball and curve makes it hard to believe he wasn't a bigger K guy before coming to the Yanks.  Adding the split may be the key, though, and it looks like it's coming along well.

Rob Refsnyder had a hit, a stolen base and scored a run, but failed to turn a DP at second, with his second throwing error of the Spring and NEEDS to show he can turn the DP.   Best of luck to him and the coaches, because his bat is ready. So's Bird's, and Austin's may be, too.

The pitching should be mostly fine, so if they fell compelled to make a trade, get an young impact bat because that is where the roster construction failure is so stark.

Of course, you probably can't get a young impact bat because that, not pitching, is the most valuable commodity in MLB.

I can live with Refs growing pains. They almost certainly won't.

I would have no problem with him learning second in the majors this season, but since they seem so intent on pretending to contend, I expect Drew there all year.

I'm with you guys. He's got a great approach at bat and reminds me of the kids we used to bring up 20 years ago or so. So do the others.

I'd like to see Refs with the Yanks if he's going to get real playing time, but not if he's glued to the bench. He needs to play every day or close to it and if that's in AAA for a while, that may be for the best.

He won't sit here.

And Ryan's injury may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Pirela.

I hope you're right!

The only time I think he would be at risk of sitting, at least for a while, would be if/when they made him the everyday 2B, and he struggled, and they didn't show sufficient patience. As of now, I think he is going to be at AAA, unless they trade him, which may not out of the question.

I also think there is a chance he could end up in the OF if Pirela takes off at 2B before he gets a shot.

The mediots are reporting that Sniveling Joe said Drew will be at 2B. Competition, the American but not the Yankee way.

We'll see. It's still early and they won't tolerate a full season of outs from Drew.
