Giants Offseason Pt. 5: What Now?

The Giants have to find some new coaches.   During TC's tenure there have been two models to bringing guys in to coach.  First,  there are the guys TC has worked with before, like Gilbride, Fewell, Pope, and others.  Second, there have been guys that TC doesn't know well but impress him in interviews, guys like Spags and McAdoo.

Now, I would rather follow the second model than the first, because I believe fresh eyes are needed.   We also need an attacking guy.   Ironically, following the second model now would eliminate the Spags option.   I'm fine with that.  I'm hoping they bring in a hot shot postition coach who's been blocked by a hot coordinator, who will install a physical, attacking defense that dictates rather than reads and reacts.  I'd look Midwest and West for one of those.

Spags would not be my choice. I still think McAdoo is the heir apparent, and as such, I would prefer someone that is young that he can grow with.

Also, as I said, don't rely on Beason as some magic elixir. He cannot be relied on, and he is slow.

Let's be honest. Coughlin cannot be allowed to make the choice. He sucks at it, and that's being kind.

I think you made the point when he was hired that if a McAdoo type of offense had been installed over Gilbride's years ago, Eli would have had much better stats. I think we have begun to see that, despite the OL issues that remain and the lack of a real TE.

So sure, Coughlin is still here (maybe as an homage to Wellington) and he should be comfortable with the new coordinator's personality, but that should but that's it.

Coughlin chose McAdoo and the new coaches last year.

Also, Beason was only really valuable because he could get Fewell's D organized on the field My friend called him "The Fewell Whisperer."

A new DC might have a completely different concept, though Beason is a good player when available.

You honestly think that left to his own desires, that he wanted to axe Gilbride and keep Fewell even though the offense had been better than the defense over the previous few years?

I think he was forced to make a change and he chose McAdoo over other younger coaches that he would never, and has never, hired on his own.

That's the problem, Beason never is.

He's the one who talked Gilbride into retiring.

He also fired Fewell and hired McAdoo.

I think it was all the result of pressure from Mara.

That sounds like Francessa.

I think he might have expected pressure from Mara, but he wasn't getting fired if he kept either guy.
