Yanks Bring Back Slade

So the Yanks have brought back Slade Heathcott after non-qualifying him several weeks ago.   Slade is the king of "if healthy," so let's hope he finally is, as he'll probably get an invite to Spring Training, so let's hope he can turn it around.

Do or Die I guess but I'm glad he's back.Someone to watch at SWB along with numerous relief pitchers LOL

Low risk and potentially high reward. He blocks nobody unless he excels. Let's hope he's healthy and can live up to his potential.

Happy New Year all.

24 years old already. 5 seasons in the organization, and I believe he has played more than 1/2 a season just once. It is time to not expect anything from him.

However, if he can ever stay healthy, his "perceived" tools alone will afford him a shot somewhere.

BTW - Nice picture there. Good job Phil.

Anyone see JR smith traded to Cleveland??

MBN -- I agree, I don't expect anything from Slade. My only point is that there's no downside here. It's like buying a lottery ticket with house money. And you make an excellent point that he could add value simply by establishing himself as a trade chip.

Instead of the Chris Young types I wish they just let one of these kids sink or swim in the major leagues. Do they have anything to lose? Not really

LAwyer;

I understand your disdain for retread vets like Young, but the problem with kids liemk Slade is that they are injured all the time, or they often do not live up to their "potential".

Signing Young was not a bad move, IMO. Righty hitter, covers all 3 OF spots, good defensively, decent speed, and will occasionally run into one for a HR. And the cost, 1 year at 2.5 million , is no big deal. If he is lousy, it is an easy cut.

Who else in the system is a righty hitter, and can solidly paly all 3 OF spots, and is ready right now? Don't give me Pirela, as he is not for CF, and is really more suited for the inf., based on what I've seen and read of him over the years.

It isn't about Slade per se it is about a mindset that has only produced a declining roster and mediocrity.

I don't care about handedness I care about quality upside.

Look how long Roberts got to suck. When was the last time a kid got that chance?

I believe you will see it this year, at SS and 2B, and maybe a spot or 2 in the pen.

Idea is Drew will play 2B against at least RHs, serve as insurance at SS if Gregorius can’t handle being Jeter’s replacement
